Vote No, Say Jaycees
The Coral Gables Jaycees want Dade County's voters to defeat the Reapportionment Amendment in the November election. The club voted unanimously on the matter at a recent meeting here. About 40 of their 100 members were present to hear Rep. Carey Matthews speak against the amendment. Matthews says the amendment, which provides for a 46-member Senate and a 135-member House, is unfair in that it does not provide sufficient Senatorial representation for populous counties such as Dade. Should voters defeat the amendment, he said, and the legislature not come up with a new plan—which is the action expected—then Matthews believes the Federal Court will step in and reapportion along lines more favorable to Dade County.
We're Well Advertised
We're proud of the big send off Coral Gables is receiving throughout the United States this week in more than 11⁄2 million homes. Our city is featured in the lead article in Suburbia Today, newspaper magazine supplement. The October issue was distributed with The Times last week. The article tells about what cities are doing to beautify themselves. Coral Gables' success is described and the two featured photographs of the story show the treatment we've given our sewage plant (murals) at the University of Miami and the palm-lined shopping of Miracle Mile.

No Public Opposition To Gulf's 7th Story
The Gulf Building got official sanction to go to seven stories Tuesday following a public hearing at which no objectors showed up. Only two of 71 persons notified had indicated earlier objections, according to City Clerk Loretta Sheehy. It was Commissioner Joe Murphy, an abstainer on earlier Gulf Building proposals, who moved the seventh floor addition on first reading. Murphy has since disassociated himself from the firm of Mayes, Sutton & Russo which handled legal affairs for Ed Rogers, real estate developer and owner of the Gulf Building. The building is well under way on Merrick Way and Alhambra Circle. With the seventh floor addition, the building will have six floors of office space and the first story reserved for parking except for a small office. An elevator shaft will top the building.

SM Laundry Given Okay To Tie On
A South Miami laundry, Wash Bowl Inc., got approval from the Coral Gables City Commission Tuesday to hook into the City's sanitary sewer system. The vote was 4-1, with Commissioner George Wilson objecting. The laundry, a coin-operated business, had once been proposed for Coral Gables but was denied. Under the agreement, it will hook into the South Miami Hospital system first. The hospital is also part of the Gables system. Wash Bowl will have to work out an agreement with the hospital which has already paid the City for hooking up, and will have to work out an agreement with the City for use and replacement costs. Commission approval came after City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. assured the Commission that the present sewage treatment plant on the University of Miami Main Campus has ample surplus capacity to handle more sanitary sewer districts.
