Joan Baylis Will Wed Ray Leonard Miley

JOAN ELIZABETH BAYLIS | Mr. and Mrs. Donald Edward Baylis, Valencia, Venezuela and formerly of 709 N Greenway Dr., announce the engagement of their daughter, Joan Elizabeth, to Ray Leonard Miley. A December wedding is planned. Her fiance is the son of Mrs. Evelyn Booth, 831 Monterey, and Paul Newcomer Miley, Akron, Ohio. A graduate of University of Miami, Joan lives at 114 Calabria and is employed by Delta Air Lines. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Paul, also a UM graduate, is now working toward his law degree. He is a member of Kappa Sigma and Delta Theta Phi fraternities.

Powell, 910 Alava Ave. * * * Two Coral Gables women were named to the Dean's List this fall at Duke University for their academic standing for the spring semester. They are Donna Jean Douglas, daughter of Mrs. Helen M. Laughrim, 1201 Campo Sano, and Jean Anne Harper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Harper, 740 Aledo Ave.

J. A. Shawns to Live in California

MRS. JOEL ARNOLD SHAWN | After a wedding trip to Mexico, Mr. and Mrs. Joel Arnold Shawn, who were married Oct. 6 in a double ring ceremony at the Alta Mira Hotel, will live in Sausalito, Calif. The bride, the former Carol Ann Sindo who lives in San Francisco, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William James Sindo, 6808 San Vicente. The groom, who lives in Sausalito, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Shawn, Jacksonville. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a pearl encrusted re-embroidered gown of Alencon lace. The skirt terminated in a chapel train. Her illusion veil fell to the waist from a peau de soie pillbox. Attendants wore dresses of gold antique satin. Matching accessories were pillbox hats, a single strand of pearls and white gloves. Flowers were yellow roses. Matron of honor was Mrs. John D. Palmer. Bridesmaids were Lore Lea Watson and Mrs. Edward J. Hegarty. Sheldon Rice was best man. Ushers were Philip Martinez, S. L. Maroney and John Waston Sindo, brother of the bride. The bride attended Coral Gables Senior High and University of Miami. The groom, Boys' High School and City College in New York City. Next March, the couple are planning a three-month, around-the-world trip.
