UDC Chapter Plans Busy November

The Southern Cross Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy has two important November dates. Last week the members presented a scholarship luncheon and fashion show at the Miami Springs Villas. From Nov. 12 to 17 many of the chapter members will attend the general UDC Convention being held at the John Marshall Hotel in Richmond, Va. Modeling in the fashion show were Mrs. V. V. Vandenberg, past chapter president, and currently director, District 5, Fla. Div[?]n, UDC., Mrs. David Eldredge, Mrs. James Billings, Mrs. Fritz Gordon and Miss Judy Bramlett, daughter of the luncheon chairman, Mrs. Homer P. Bramlett. Mrs. Garland McNutt, music chairman, arranged for the Kay Foster string trio to provide background music.

INITIATION OF NEW MEMBERS of the Ladies Auxiliary of Ray Renuart Post No. 5718, Veterans of Foreign Wars, was conducted recently at the post home. These women all have relatives or husbands who served in a branch of the U. S. armed forces overseas. Swearing in the new members is Beulah Meiers, president of the Florida Federation of Ladies Auxiliaries. Left to right are mother and daughter, Ruby and Judith Rote, Alice O'Berry, Helen J. Wall, and another mother and daughter, Vietta Moeslein and Ethel Anderson and Rita Bauman.

Regent Presides At Luncheon

Mrs. J. P. Simmons, Regent of the Governor John West Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists, presided at a luncheon and meeting of the chapter last Thursday at the Bath Club. Mrs. Corwin E. Walbridge presented a musical program including songs by the young Italian soloist, Mrs. Sue Farrnell Bogusky, in person. Hostesses for the meeting included Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. E. H. Bailey, Mrs. J. H. Middleton, Mrs. L. B. Green, Mrs. C. A. Bergin and Mrs. H. B. Pownall.

International Music Note

International music will provide the theme for the program of the South Miami Music Club at 10:30 a.m. today at the University Christian Church, 6750 Sunset Dr. Miss Ruby Jackson Brain, organist and member of the Florida Federation of Women's Club, will speak on the theme. Others on the program will be Osaka Brummitt, who will sing Japanese songs, Rose Nyberg, Indian songs; Marie Casani, soprano, and club member singing Italian songs, and Jos Mariscal, graduate student of the University of Miami, who will play arrangements of Cuban folk songs on the piano. Mrs. Pat Dierick is club hostess; Mrs. C. F. Brand is the new president.

Golfing Awards Are Made

The year's awards for golfing excellence were announced recently, following luncheon and installation of new officers of the Women's Golf Association of the Country Club of Coral Gables. They are: Mrs. Daniel A. Tarullo, most improved golfer, showing a 37 per cent improvement; Mrs. Albert Anderson, low gross with 69, and Mrs. Frank Kriwanck, 59, low net. 43 Golfers A total of 43 golfers turned out for the day's play and installation. Mrs. Albert Anderson, club champion and president of the Greater Miami Women's Golf Association, was the installing officer. Mrs. Harry Jasper is the new president; Mrs. Dave Bosworth Jr., the golf chairman. Low Gross Winners in the Friday low gross played in classes were: Class A, Mrs. John P. Beaumont and Mrs. Georgia Miller tied for first with a 43; Mrs. Tony McCrakin, second with 44; Mrs. Albert Anderson and Mrs. G. E. Smith, tied for third with 45. In class B, Mrs. Tarullo first with 48; Mrs. Leland Lee, Mrs. Franklin Parson and Mrs. J. Stanley Burke, second with 51. In Class C, Mrs. Rollo Budde and Mrs. W. M. West were first with 52; Miss Louise Husband second with 54; Mrs. Henry Krystow, third with 55.

Ixora Club Plans Workshop Today

Mrs. Robert M. Brockman, 5221 SW 6th St., will be hostess for the 10 a.m. workshop meeting today for members of the Ixora Garden Club with a pot luncheon following. Mrs. Donald Miller will head the workshop instruction. The making of Christmas trees for children at Kendall (one of the Club's therapy projects) will be on the agenda. The Ixora Club members will also discuss the decorations they are making for tables at the annual Vizcayan Ball to be held Saturday at Vizcaya.
