Gables Cocks Ear For Noisy Air Conditioners

Noise, whether it comes from airplanes or air conditioners, is proving quite a nuisance to Coral Gables. The Coral Gables City Commission, long at war with airplanes, decided to tackle the problem of noisy air conditioners last week. A study will be conducted by licensed air conditioning contractors to determine how air conditioning installations can be quieted. While they are at it, contractors are also going to be asked how water drip from down-town business installations can be stopped. Commission Support Commissioner Joe Murphy broached the noise problem and was supported by the commission. Murphy pointed out that the city must issue permits now without consideration of noise creating factors. Treating each nuisance case after the installation is completed is unfair to both the owner and the person complaining, he said. Pool Installations Using the analogy of swimming pools, Murphy said that the city takes many precautions to insure that installations will be satisfactory and create a minimum of nuisance. Main offenders, Commissioners agreed, are the large exterior installations, but some of the window units are noisy also. The only way property owners can defend themselves from noise is to air condition themselves and many don't like it or want to, Commissioners pointed out.

City Hall Inside Job Estimated At $5000

An inside move costing approximately $5000 has been approved at Coral Gables City Hall by the City Commission. Under the plan approved by the Commission last week, the city clerk's office will be moved up front opposite the city manager's office. This will leave the present city clerk's office open for a move by the finance director and create more room for his growing staff. The printing section which now occupies the office scheduled to become the city clerk's new home will be moved upstairs.

They left Miami International Airport via Trans World Airlines to Los Angeles, California last Friday, November 11. After a weekend in California, the couple flew to Honolulu — where they are staying at the popular Princess Kaulani Hotel. After the Convention, Bill and his wife will take a four-day tour to islands of Kauai, Mauai, and Hawaii. And his trip to Hawaii could benefit you ... the traveling public! "This ASTA Convention presents a unique opportunity for me to meet, talk, and do business with travel industry firms and individuals from virtually every travel-significant country in the free world," Mr. Mason said. "By exchanging ideas with these men, I add to my knowledge of the travel industry. This enables me to better serve my customers with advice in places to see, finer accommodations, and better means of transportation." Each year, in October or November, ASTA conducts an Annual Convention and World Travel Congress. In recent years, these have been held, successively in Mexico City, Washington, D.C., Paris, Miami-Miami Beach, Rome, San Francisco, and Lausanne-Lake Geneva. Participation in Convention seminars, business meetings and social meetings is restricted to members only. Attendance at recent annual meetings has approached the 2,000 mark, and the Congress has been termed, appropriately... "United Nations of the travel industry." WHAT IS ASTA? For more than a quarter of a century, the American Society of Travel Agents, Inc., has been dedicated to serving the best interest of the traveling public and the travel industry. The ASTA emblem appearing on Travel Inc's. advertisements, letterheads, etc., is a "hallmark" of dependable travel service. It is a symbol of quality throughout the world, for the Society, which began as the American Steamship and Tourist Agents Association in February 1931, has since grown into a world-wide organization comprised of more than three thousand Active and Allied members. In addition, there are approximately 900 Allied and nearly 500 Allied associate members representing leading carriers, hotels, resorts, sightseeing and car-hire companies, official tourist organizations, and other travel interests. Despite its size and far-flung membership, however, ASTA is a cohesive, well integrated, and smoothly-running organization. "We of Travel Inc. call upon the facilities of ASTA headquarters for information, for purposes of objective liaison in solving trade problems, for advice and consultation on a myriad of matters and as a clearing house for sales and promotional ideas," Bill said.
