by helen reynolds society editor. November parties honoring Christmas week brides-elect are being announced for Barbara Babbitt, who has set Dec. 27 for her marriage to Harry G. Tysinger Jr. ... Barbara, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Babbitt of 1109 Andalusia, was honored the first Saturday with a luncheon and lingerie shower at the Country Club of Coral Gables, with Joan Liggett, her maid-of-honor, the hostess. There were 26 guests. Last Saturday, Miss Robie Lacy, also a bridesmaid-elect and her mother, Mrs. George E. Lacy, will hostess a coffee and miscellaneous shower at the Lacy home on Alhambra Circle Nov. 19, Miss Lynn Farrell, brides-maid-elect, will honor Barbara with a tea and kitchen shower at her home in Coconut Grove... On Nov. 26 Miss Joan Douglass, a bridesmaid-elect who attends Florida State University, will give a linen shower-coffee with her mother, Mrs. Earl B. Douglass Jr., at their home in the Moorings. More parties are scheduled in December for Barbara who will have eight attendants. * * * Kathleen (Mrs. William L. Huntley must bear a charmed life. Last Thursday, her birthday dawned beautifully cool and sunny, first sun after several days of hard rains. Kathleen has been having a party on this date for many years. "We've yet to see it rain," said a lot of her friends at the party. Mrs. Huntley was wearing a white linen embroidered sheath dress, an import from Cuba, as she received in the foyer of their N. Greenway Dr. home. Guests were served champagne punch informally by a bevy of young matrons. Serving the bubbly-stuff were Carol (Mrs. William L.) Huntley Jr., and Kay (Mrs. W. B.) Stephens when we were there. Mrs. William G. Sanchez was keeping the guest book. Still using a cane due to a fall, Maudie says she feels better since she is slimmer. Others at the annual party were Mrs. Henry Clay Anderson, Mrs. George Elliott Patterson, Mrs. C. E. Klassy, Mrs. F. E. Kitchens, Kay (Mrs. John) Montgomery, Bunty (Mrs. Pat) Cesarano, Mrs. L. B. Stephens and Mrs. John Sullivan. ... Mrs. Roscoe Brunstetter and her husband, former mayor of Coral Gables, have a sure cure for the hurricane blues. "We leave town," she said, just as soon as a sure hurricane precast has been made. Seems the Brunstetters, who came to Coral Gables just before the 1926 hurricane and bought property on Lisbon St. on which they have always lived, returned north that year just before the storm. * * * Betty Clooney (sister of Rosemary Clooney) will be the star attraction Saturday, when the Country Club of Coral Gables gives its President's Ball. Festivities will begin with a formal dinner served between 7 and 9 p.m. Golden goblets and golden crowns will carry out a "golden" theme in decor. Dancing and entertainment will follow. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney C. Kass and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hessen have charge of decorations. Mr. and Mrs. James B. Wadhams, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Edison Archer and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clutter are assisting. * * * Mrs. H. W. "Pat" Cook Jr., who left Friday by jet with Miss Lila Stewart for a three weeks tour of Europe, was honored Tuesday by a group of friends at the home of Mrs. A. N. Hutchinson, 612 Tiziano Ave. Pat and Lila will visit London and Paris, tour Switzerland and Italy and visit Venice, Milan, Florence, Rome and Capri.
CHATTING after the luncheon Saturday at the Country Club of Coral Gables honoring all women members were, from left, Mrs. Gerald Torrens, Mrs. S. W. Clemmons and Mrs. R. Ernest Nitzsche, a past president of the Women's Executive Board.
