Vows Exchanged In Military Wedding

LT. AND MRS. JAMES EDMUND SHULTE Following a wedding trip through the Scandinavian countries, United States Army First Lieut. James Edmund Schulte, formerly of Coral Gables, and his bride, the former Miss Patricia Jeanne Atkinson of Minneapolis, are residing in Bamberg, Germany. The couple pledged their vows in a nuptial mass Aug. 13 in the Twelfth Century Saint Michaelsberg Kirche at Bamberg. The reception followed at the Bamberg Officers Club. White Roses The bride, who wore a white satin sheath and veil of illusion, carried white roses. She was attended by Miss Diane Vallance of Gary, Ind., in pink chiffon. Catherine Clement, daughter of Capt. and Mrs. C. C. Clement and a first grade pupil of the bride, was flower girl. The groom was attended by fellow officers in dress uniform who held crossed swords in the traditional ceremony as the couple left the Kirche. The bride, the daughter of Mrs. John Robert Petrick of Minneapolis, was graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. degree in education and home economics. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Spring Hill Graduate The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund R. Schulte of 1259 Asturin Ave., was graduated from Spring Hill College, Mobile, Ala., where he was chancellor of Omicron Sigma fraternity. He was in his first year at the University of Florida and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity when the Army called him. He holds membership in Scabbard and Blade, military honorary, and is a member of the Country Club of Coral Gables.

Mrs. Holland Is Director Of Hope School

Mrs. Norman Holland is new director of the Hope School for the Mentally Retarded, 666 SW 4th St. The school, maintained through philanthropy, is a day and boarding school for boys and girls. The curriculum includes speech therapy, physical education, visual and audio aids in teaching and training in arts and crafts. There also is available a Boy Scout Troop, field trips and social functions. The school is staffed with accredited teachers, a psychiatrist, physician and nurse. Hope School at present has two chapters, Angel Chapter of Miami Beach and Coral Gables Chapter, of which Phylis Hodges of Coral Gables is president. An open house will be held Sunday, Nov. 20. Refreshments will be served and there will be a special program. During this period, children's classes will be in session.

Dames Club Plans For Yule Season

The Aquinas Student Center, University of Miami, Campus will be the setting Monday for the 8 p.m. meeting of The Miami Dames Club. Included in the meeting will be final plans for the club's bridge, canasta and mah jongg social to be held Saturday, Dec. 3, and the Christmas Party for children to be held Dec. 10. Both will be held at the Center.

Gables Pen Women Greet 8 Members

The Coral Gables Branch of the National League of American Pen Women held its first meeting of the season at the Coral Gables Country Club recently. Edith James, lawyer-author of 7640 SW 71st Ave., spoke on "Florida Divorce." Highlight of the luncheon was presentation of eight new members. They are Lillian Burak, playwright, 5401 SW 62 St.; Evangeline Grant, syndicated newspaper feature writer, 911 Venetia Ave.; Ethel Howard, writer of articles on meteorology, 6825 SW 87th Ave.; Lenore Johanson, composer, 5851 SW 11th St.; Margaret Keyser, newspaper feature writer, 925 Palermo Ave.; Julia Swart, ex-editor and writing instructor, 3384 Shipping Ave., Coconut Grove; Mildred Taber, travel feature writer, 8200 SW 124th St.; and Emily Yawn, newspaper feature writer, 1400 Coral Way. The members of this group conduct and promote creative and education activities in art, letters and music. A scholarship fund of $600 was donated to the University of Miami last year.

Mrs. C. W. Stern Visits Daughter

Mrs. C. W. Stern, 334 Alesio Ave., has just returned from a five-week visit with her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. George B. Pace, of Columbia, Mo. Mrs. Pace, the former Dorothy Newkerk, used to teach at the University of Miami. Mrs. Sterns visit was for the christening of her new granddaughter, Mary Douglass, born Sept. 24. It also gave Mrs. Stern a chance to see her other grandchildren, Cathie, 11, and Caroline, 1. On her return to Coral Gables, Mrs. Stern stopped to visit her youngest daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James D. Harris, in their new home in Indian River City, Fla. Mrs. Harris is the former Caye Yaeck.

Dance Will Aid Asthmatic Children

On Saturday, Nov. 19, the Lorber Chapter of the Jewish National Home for Asthmatic Children in Denver, will hold a dinner dance at the Eden Roc Hotel. The affair will start at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails. Donation is $25 a couple. The Lorber Chapter is composed of Southwest and Coral Gables residents, young mothers who work to provide necessary funds to help asthmatic children from Dade County. The home in Denver is free, non-sectarian, and has children from all over the United States and Israel. President of the group is Mrs. Lee Poliner, 1534 Cecilia Ave., fund raising vice president, Mrs. Sydney Efronson, 5930 SW 62 Pl. Golfers To Shoot For Real 'Birdies'

Members of the Biltmore Women's Golf Association will hold a special tournament today -- a "Turkey Shoot." But the golfers will be shooting for low scores and low putts rather than killing the "birdies." Donnors' of prizes are members Mrs. Howard Plasman and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Samle Dickenson, and the birds, all dressed, will be ready for the oven.
