Raggedy Ann takes most original category
From Page 1 place in the decorative category. An intricate angel design ornamented Mrs. Page's red, green, gold and white stocking. A Christmas stocking done in a Raggedy Ann motif -- in this case the rag doll is dressed as one of Santa's helpers and is riding a skateboard -- was the most original stocking we received. The creator of the stocking was Margaret Bowman of 2251 SW 82nd Ave., who was the first place winner in the "Most Original" category. Second prize in originality went to Mrs. Hazel Feldman of 6092 SW 11th St. Her stocking is done in felt and has jolly St. Nick climbing out of a chimney. And last but not least of the winners is Betsy Albert of 10030 Kendale Blvd., who won third place in the most original category. A sled and reindeer done in felt and ornamented with gold glitter decorated her entry. Since there were so many beautiful stockings entered, the following people were awarded honorable mentions for their creative work: Mrs. Hilda Dell of 2821 SW 38th Ave., Rina Villanueva of 3680 SW 58th Ct., Colleen Yoham of 7895 Grand Canal Dr. and Juli Book of 9700 SW 106th Ave. Also receiving honorable mentions were Michele Deemer of 10350 SW 62nd St., Hazel Feldman of 6091 SW 11th St., and Susan Welsh of 11455 SW 57th St. A Special Honorable Mention went to Mrs. Ward, who also won the first prize in the Most Decorative category. Mrs. Ward's stocking was done in newspaper style. The white felt stocking was topped with the same lettering The Times/Guide uses on the front page and had a news article about Santa's arrival typed on the stocking. All of the stockings which were received will be stuffed with toys and candy and distributed to a group of needy children who will attend The Times/Guide Christmas party, to be held Dec. 11 at the Coral Gables Youth Center.
