Gables City Commission proclaims Bicentennial Appreciation Week

The Coral Gables City Commission proclaimed Dec. 2 through Dec. 5 as the Bicentennial Legislative Appreciation Week. The governor, members of the Cabinet and Florida's legislators are due to arrive in Miami on Thursday, Dec. 2 for the four day week and are expected to meet with Dade businessmen. Sponsors of Legislative Appreciation Week include many members of the local business community, civic organizations, Dade's municipalities, and representatives from the public at large. It is the first time since 1967 that the entire Florida legislative delegation has been invited to visit Dade County as a group. gables news Development The University of Miami's community development division in the Department of Architecture is seeking applications from economically disadvantages persons 18 and older who want to work with severly and profoundly retarded individuals. Supported by the state Department of Community Affairs, Office of Manpower Planning, the community development division will train 40 persons, both men and women, to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to operate or be employed in a home. Known as the Group Home Operators Program, the one-year training program will begin early in December. Two groups of 20 will be trained for five months.
