Chamber president elected
By EDWIN KNIGHT Staff Writer A man who plans to 'carry on and even improve the successful features of the South Miami Area Chamber of Commerce program has been elected the chamber's new president. He is 49-year-old William Johnson, manager of the South Mimai Lithgow funeral center for 15 years who now succeeds County Judge C.P. (Dick) Lantz to the chamber presidency. "We have some very successful and worthwhile programs going now," he pointed out, "and we hope to continue and even improve these during the coming year." Married and the father of four children, Johnson has been a member of the chamber's policy-making board of directors, "for a number of years." Johnson pointed out that the chamber recently concluded its annual downtown South Miami art show, which, he noted was very successful. "And we're now planning to erect Christmas decorations in downtown South Miami, as we do every year," said the new president. As for any new ideas or programs for the coming year, Johnson said that the chamber president or the board of directors are free at any time to develop ideas or programs that would promote the South Miami area. "There's also the bicycle races in downtown South Miami in February, which we hope to have again in 1977, and the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in March," Johnson added. Johnson and the chamber's other incoming officers will be installed at the annual installation dinner to be held Friday night, Dec. 10, at Hampshire Inn, 9600 Sunset Dr. In addition to Johnson, those to be installed by outgoing President Judge Lantz include Steve Masson, first vice president; Tom Rowley, second vice president; Robert Self, treasurer, and George Andrews, secretary.
