Pots, plants, antiques go on sale at Fairchild Garden annual 'Ramble'
It's ramble time again, that pre-Christmas, plant sale and bargain hunter's paradise thrown by Fairchild Tropical Gardens, 10901 Old Cutler Road every year. It will be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3 and 4, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The rummage sale will feature furniture, antiques, books, appliances, hardware and boutique items. The plant sale will include orchids, bromelaids, palms, fruit trees, flowering trees and other plants that are often hard to find at nurseries. Fried chicken, hot dogs and homemade desserts will be sold and guided train tours will be given. Admission is $2 for adults and children under 16 are admitted free with their parents. Parking inside the garden is free. Fairchild expects about 10,000 visitors during this year's ramble, who will help finance the expenses of this non-profit botanical research garden for the coming year. Fairchild Tropical Garden not only maintains research facilities, but holds non-credit courses for adults in horticulture and plant raising. The garden boasts a membership of over 5,000 and at least 600 of those will be on hand during the ramble to help. The items to be sold during the event are donated by members and other local people. "We started collecting things for this year's ramble a week after last year's," said Pauline Warren, administrative assistant at the Garden.
