Clean Up, Paint Up, Fix Up Gables Chamber launches beautification project

Clean Up, Paint Up, Fix Up 1976 winner Roger Mumm, DDS, 3326 Ponce de Leon Blvd. 1976 winner Florida National Bank Drive-In, 3899 Bird Rd. Gables Chamber launches beautification project If your neighbors have made any improvements on their businesses and you think they deserve some recognition, you can nominate them for a special beautification award beginning Feb. 2. The Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce "Nominate Your Neighbor" program will now accept nominations from anyone wishing to submit a Gables business which has made improvements to property during the past year. This year for the first time, the Chamber's Keep the City Beautiful Committee will be accepting nominations for improvements to the interior as well as the exterior of a business. Before the nominations had been restricted to the exterior beautification of business concerns. The criteria for judging the winners for the Chamber award is the improvement of the commercial district, contributing to the committee and Chamber's goal of "Keeping the City Beautiful." More than 1,200 nomination forms have been distributed to all Chamber members, and additional forms are available at the Chamber office at 50 Aragon Ave. The deadline for the clean-up, paintup and fix-up project is March 15. The presentation of the awards will be held on Thursday, March 24, and the Grand Award for the business judged the best "Keeper of the City Beautiful," will be presented on April 21. The members of the committee, headed by Ron Robison, will be responsible for investigating and reviewing all the nominations for the award. The city will be divided into several districts and each member will be in charge of the individual areas. Last year's Grand Award winners were the Douglas Centre, 2600 Douglas Rd., and the Douglas Entrance, 800 Douglas Rd. Other 1976 award winners included Around the World Travel, 538 Biltmore Way; Coral Gables Towers, 66 Valencia; Florida National Bank, Drive-In, 3899 Bird Rd.; Le Festival Restaurant, 2120 Salzedo St.; Mel Greene Studio, 2305 Ponce de Leon Blvd.; Roger V.
