Temple Beth Am plans symphony program at annual luncheon
A group of top symphonic musicians will perform for the benefit of the Temple Beth Am Religious School at the Sisterhood's annual Religious School Luncheon to be held at the Kings Bay Yacht and Country Club, Wednesday, Feb. 9. The musicians hail from the Miami Philharmonic and the Fort Lauderdale Symphony Orchestras. The luncheon will start at 11:15 a.m., and required donations are $15 for a Patroness, $25 for an Angle and $50 for a Philanthropist.
religion Seminar
A seminar entitled "Kabbalah for Life Enhancement" will be presented at the Science of Mind Center, 7800 Miller Rd., Friday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. The seminar will be presented by Dr. Joseph H. Gelberman, rabbi of the Little Synagogue in New York City, where he teaches Judaic symbology and mysticism, representing the Hassidic branch of Judaism.
Memorial Service
Services at Temple Beth Tov Friday, Feb. 4 will be dedicated to the memory of Cpl. Jacob Ramer, who served in the U.S. Army and died without leaving any survivors. Services begin at 8:15 p.m.
Interfaith Day
A reminder-Church Women United Interfaith Day is Thursday, Feb. 3 at the Kendall United Methodist Church, 7600 SW 104th St., at 9 a.m. The program will be entitled "Faith and Life" and donation for the noon luncheon is $2.
Missionaries
Nine missionaries representing six different mission boards will participate in the 17th Annual Missionary Conference the week of Feb. 6 through 13 at the First Baptist Church of Westwood Lake. Regular Sunday morning services will be held Feb. 6 and 13 at 9:45 a.m. and 10:55 a.m. with missionary speakers both hours. Two missionaries will be featured each evening starting at 7. Films and displays of the different mission works will add to the week's activities. The public is invited to attend. For further information, call 221-8381.
Methodist school
Outstanding Christian educators and Biblical scholars from all over the nation will comprise the faculty of the annual United Methodist Christian Enrichment School, scheduled for Feb. 6 through 10. The school is sponsored by the United Methodist Churches of the Miami area and is open to the public without charge. Sessions will be held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 6 at 2:30 and Monday through Thursday evenings at 7:30 at the Kendall United Methodist Church, 7600 SW 104th St. Curriculum will include a study of I and II Corinthians and a variety of self-help courses as well as courses designed for church leaders.
'Science on Trial'
"Science on Trial-Anti-science and Pseudoscience" will be the subject of lecturer Dr. Paul Kurtz at the First Unitarian Church, 7701 SW 76th Ave., Sunday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. Dr. Kurtz is editor of the magazine, "The Humanist" and a philosophy professor at the State University of New York as well as moderator of a national TV program "Humanist Alternatives." The lecture is open to the public, and tickets are $2 per person. Reservations may be made by calling the church at 667-3697.
A little for all
Killian Pines United Methodist Church, 10755 SW 112th St., has something for everyone in the community. On Saturday, Feb. 5 all ages will participate in ice skating followed by a chili supper at the Church. Sunday, Feb. 6 there will be a men's club breakfast at 8 a.m. at the church, and at the 11 a.m. service Pastor Grant D. Siegfried will discuss the question "Are Women Human?" And finally, on Feb. 11, 12 and 13, campers, hikers and boaters will enjoy a week-end at Flamingo National Park. For further information about the activities, call the church office at 595-2878.
Music in America
The public is invited to attend a program of American music, Friday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Plymouth Congregational Church, 3429 Devon Rd. The piano students of Mary Ellison will present a panoramic view of the last 200 years of music in America, with examples of both popular and art music.
