Artist teams marionettes, music
Daniel Llords, solo marionettiste, will present a unique production of music and marionettes for adults on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. on the patio of the Whitten Student Union at the University of Miami. With mime and music, Llords will tell a 'story using puppets, hand-made marionettes and black-theatre technique. Admission is free. Gem show For exhibits and working demonstrations by gemologists and a chance to view and purchase jewelry, gems and rocks, come to the Jewelry, Gem and Mineral Show, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 5 and 6 at the Youth Fair Annex Building, Tamiami Park on Coral Way. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $1 for adults, 50 cents for children. Dance films The films "Ballet with Edward Vilella" and "Paul Taylor and Company", to be screened Feb. 2 at 7 p.m., will conclude the film series on the dance at the Coral Gables Branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library System. Free admission. Piano concert American concert pianist Leonard Shure highlights three musical events at the University of Miami this week. Shure will give his first Miami piano recital Saturday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. in Gusman Hall. On Sunday, Feb. 6, the pianist will offer a two hour workshop beginning at 3 p.m. in Filmore Hall on the campus. The UM Percussion Ensemble, directed by Barry Brosch, will present a program on Friday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. in Gusman Hall. Admission is free. Also free is a Division of Musical Arts recital on Sat., Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. in Gusman Hall. Broadway show Catch a little of Broadway in Coconut Grove and reserve tickets for "Me and Bessie," a musical tribute to the legendary star of the Twenties. Linda Hopkins will star in the musical, which will play for a limited threeweek engagement, through 20. The show will be presented exactly as it has been on Broadway. Fairy tale The search for the true princess, Ivan Kivitt style, continues at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, 235 Alcazar, in the production of "The Princess and the Pea" Saturdays and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $2.50 for adults and $2 for children. Art display Stop by the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami to see the first major showing of Chaim Gross' works. Consisting of 20 drawings and watercolors, 10 tapestries and 50 pieces of sculpture in stone, wood and bronze, the exhibition will be on display until Feb. 27. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 2 to 5 p.m. Sundays. TV stars Channel 2 and Jack Horkheimer, director of Miami's Space Transit Planetarium, have combined talents and technology to present Star Hustler, an unusual view of the night skies which brings that unique 20thcentury phenomenon — the planetarium — right into viewer s' homes, via their TV sets, every Thursday evening at 7:55.
