As for Pies--The Crust Gives Her Trouble!

IN THEIR PATIO looking over their sons' shell collection are Pastor and Mrs. Earl L. Hively. In the pastor's lap is youngest son, Jonathan, 2. At right is Tom, 5. Inset into picture, top left, is Tim, 9; top right, Jim, 7. By RAYMOND LANG Times Reporter Maybe it's not polite to stare, but you can't help notice the ceiling when you step into the living room of The Rev. and Mrs. Earl L. Hively. "It's called a cathedral ceiling," the wife of the pastor of St. James Lutheran Church said as she looked up at the frame rafters. "That's what we liked about the house when we first walked in and when anyone does come in for the first time, they remark about it." The home behind the church at 110 Phoenetia Ave. was provided by the parishioners when the Hivelys moved here four years ago from Warren, Ohio. What's it like for the lady of the house not to choose her own home and furniture? "You have kind of an advantage," said the brunette. "It's a relief you don't have to spend time looking around for a house. "And the parishioners had all the furniture arranged and a meal waiting for us in the refrigerator. "And they about doubled the size of the house," the mother of four sons went on. "They added two bedrooms, a study, patio, and a family room." The study is the favorite room of Mrs. Hively and her sons, Timothy, 9; James, 7; Thomas, five. The baby is Jonathan, two. "The boys do their homework in there and if I want to get away from it all I can go in there and read," she said. Like many housewives, Mrs. Hively appreciates her bedroom's walk-in closets which give her plenty of space and the screened-in patio where she and her husband can relax nights when he's not making church calls. And, of course, the spacious kitchen. "At Christmas, I bake about six fruit cakes and 50 or 60 dozen cookies for church affairs. I don't like pies so I stick to cake." But why not pies? "Pies!" she exclaimed," the crust gives me trouble."
