South Pacific For Everyone

"For the American tourist with just a few precious weeks carefully budgeted for that overseas holiday, the South Pacific until now has been beyond reach. But with the 1960's and the age of jet, the 'holiday frontier has been pushed right across the world's widest ocean," Bill Mason of Travel Inc., declared. "Thanks to this revolution in transportation by the modern jet airliner, the two, three, and four week tourist can now comfortably reach New Zealand, Australia and the islands of the South Pacific, with precious holiday time still unused on arrival. A new travel criterion now exists — time in hours, rather than distance in miles. The Pacific West Coast is now only 16 hours from Tahiti, when only months ago it was a 35 hour flight via Fiji, Tahiti and Auckland, New Zealand were once 20 hours apart by air — and now they are 10 hours from each other. The mounting interest in the South Pacific is not the product of jet age time saving alone. Among the hundreds of islands and the thousands of islets, lies the "last frontier" — short of the jungle, the desert or the snowlands of the globe — for the tourist who seeks the world as nature made it. He will find that world among the enchanted islands of the South Pacific.
