Incinerator Fallout Could End 60 Days From Now, He Says
Equipment designed to end fallout from the Coconut Grove incinerator has been ordered and should be installed in approximately two months, Paul Andrews, Miami's assistant city manager said Tuesday. Meanwhile, Miami has adopted new operation schedules to minimize smoke and soot, Andrews said. "We've changed operation," said Andrews. "We're shutting the plant down more frequently." Andrews, who has lived with the incinerator since it was in the planning stage, said the plant operates two days, shuts down one day, operates two days and shuts down two days to give crews time to clean the equipment. This is a stop gap measure until proper equipment can be installed to do the job properly, Andrews said. Installation of a new drumtype screen and water re-circulating system is expected to solve the problem. Similar installations have not created the same problems, Andrews said, because they have a sewer system to dispose of used water. Sidney G. Keep, 718 University Dr., who had to seal up his home and install air conditioning because of the fallout, appeared recently before the Miami City Commission and dropped a bag of soot swept off his porch. "They were all duly impressed with it," Keep said. "It looks like something is being done," he added.

Commissioners Like Design Turned Down by Architects
The City Commission has overridden the Board of Architects after the board turned down the design for the new tennis pro shop at Salvadore Park. City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. said the board split 2-1, with O. K. Houstoun Jr. and Carl Blohm voting against the design proposed by William Merriam, and Ed Rempe for. But Rempe said it was a unanimous vote. "Not consistent with City standards. Suggest study for better appearance," the board gave as its reason for denying. But the Commission was pleased.
