by helen reynolds society editor Mary and Pete Peterson of SW 132nd St., have as their house guests Mr. and Mrs. Kerith Saunders and their two children, daughter Darlene and son Geoffrey, from Kingston, Jamaica, W. I. They will be here until the 20th when they sail out of Port Everglades on the SS Orange for England and a six months leave. A round of parties are planned for Christine and Kerith including dancing this Saturday night at the Coral Gables Country Club. Wednesday, Mary will take Christine to the fashion-show luncheon at the Kings Bay Yacht Club sponsored by the Coco Plum Woman's Club. As for Darlene she will see how the United States school work. She will accompany the Peterson's daughter, Susan to Palmetto Senior High School, and it will be her first visit to an American school. Sue is a senior at P. H. The Petersons and the Saunders are old friends. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. Charles Holliman, 1136 Aduana Ave., had two glimpses of her first grandchild, Charles Michael Holliman, the day of his birth and for the past three weeks when Charles Michael "Mike" and his parents visited the Hollimans. Mike's dad Air Force Lt. James Holliman and his wife Suzanne plus Mike just left for Lochbourne Base, Columbus, Ohio, where he is stationed. ★ ★ ★ Nedra McNamara, assistant director of public information at the University of Miami, has nothing but praise for Harry N. Rath who is announcing his June retirement as principal of Miami Senior High School. Nedra worked with Mr. Rath when he was principal of Ponce de Leon High School from 1935 to 1942 and she said he had the same standards of academic quality, then, as he has done at the new Coral Gables High School opened in 1950. Miss McNamara was head of the Journalism and the French Departments. "Time after Time," she said, "we won our place in the National (high school) Newspapers awards." She recalls that the school paper was made up and printed at the old Times building on Aragon.

THE NEW children's buyer at Daniels Department Store is Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) Yolken. A buyer for 15 years, she's worked in Nashville, her hometown, and in Tulsa. The Yolkens, who have three sons, live at 8790 SW 86th St.

Music Club

The Coral Gables Music Club will meet Tuesday at the Musicians Club on 307 Minorca Ave. at 2:30 p.m. Recent scholarship winners will perform. Performers are Lillian Buss, piano; Jane Bowman, flute, Joyce McGrew, voice. Wilda Lou Brown, violin; Carolyn and Katheryn Haynes, two pianos and suite for flute quartet Rachelle Draizer, Judy Blum, Mary Anne Ankrum, Barbara Matthews.

TRADE TALK

Ivan Joseph of McCall and Joseph, 216 Andalusia Ave., has been admitted to membership in the Gables Board of Realtors. ★ ★ ★ Holsom Bakers Vice President R. E. Chivers was awarded a 25-year service pin by board chairman George Wilson. ★ ★ ★ Paul J. Gainer, district manager for Prudential, has been awarded the President's Citation Award for having his district in the company's top 5%. This is the sixth consecutive year the district has received such an honor.

COFFEE CLUB

The monthly Coffee Club of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce will be held at 8 a.m. April 19 at the Polly Davis Cafeteria. This month's program is sponsored by the Florida National Bank at Coral Gables. It will present as the principal speaker Ralph Smathers.

Foreign Flags to Fly

As a gesture of friendship to our neighbors in the Western Hemisphere, the City of Coral Gables has arranged for periodic display of the flags of all the American nations. These will be flown in groups of three from flagpoles affixed to the street lighting standards. The site of the display will be Alhambra Circle from Le Jeune Road to a point east of Ponce de Leon. The flags will fly on national holidays of the United States and a few other days of special significance. First display of the hemisphere banners will be Saturday.

Our Girls Win Play In Tennis

The Coral Gables Senior High School girls team won the district 8 high school tennis championships, held in Miami Beach Flamingo Park. The Gables boys team placed third. Both teams will represent district 8 in the state net tourney at the University of Florida in Gainesville this week end. In the girls No. 1 singles finals, Barbara Cook of Coral Gables defeated Enid Williams of Hialeah, 8-6, 6-4. In the No. 2 girls singles, Judy Prettyman defeated Barbara Slogren, Hialeah, 6-3, 6-3. Miss Cook and Miss Prettyman bounced the Key West team, Joyce Tatum and Barbara Acevedo, 6-2, 6-0 in the doubles feature. Other Gables winners were Mauricio Montana, defeating Mike Gross, Miami Beach, 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles finals. Russ Langstroth teamed with Richard Monan to capture the No. 2 boys doubles title by defeating Crissman-Miller of Edison, 6-4, 6-1.

Art Club Sets Show Sunday

The Coral Gables Art Club will open an early Spring Show of Painting Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. The show, which will include a group of songs by Mrs. Henry L. Balaban, will be held at the Coconut Grove Women's Club.
