Chris OK After Bat Hits Him

Chris Moffett, 510 Santander Ave., saw stars when he got bobbed on the bean over his left eye during a baseball game at the Coral Gables Youth Center Friday. Chris, standing too close to batter Jim Flanagan of 106 Palermo Ave., was accidently struck when Jim finished his swing. The struck-out baseball player was taken by ambulance to Doctors' Hospital. Chris sported a good size "goose egg" the following morning but "he was fine," reported a Center secretary.

A valuable circular entitled Turfgrass Disease Control Guide has just been released by this Agricultural Extension Service, Gainesville.

Ed Kellermann Named Chairmn

Ed Kellermann, vice president of Consumers Water Company, is chairman of a four-man committee handling efforts to study ways to coordinate the activities of the City's civic clubs. Other members are Ken Goelzer, Ed Roffler and Hans Wedemeyer. The committee was set up following a recent meeting of presidents of various civic clubs under the auspices of the Civic Affairs Committee of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Foulk Wins Golf Play

The Women's Golf Association of the Riviera Country Club played the first 18 holes with handicap of the 36 hole Grace M. Hall tournament Tuesday and Mrs. E. A. Foulk with a net 71 won. Mrs. Robert Kurz was second with a net 72 and Mrs. Ben Hendricks was third with a net 73. There were four players tied for fourth place, with a 74 which is par. They were Mrs. George Duvall, Mrs. Billie Harting, Mrs. David O. Schriner and Mrs. John W. Thompson Jr.

DAR Takes 2 State Prizes

Cape Florida Chapter, DAR, won two awards at the 1962 state conference. They are first prize for American Indians Committee, due to the sale of $464 worth of Indian merchandise at Grove House; and the State Conference Press award for the outstanding Parliamentary Law in the national magazine, by their member Herberta Ann Leonardy, 239 Fluvia Ave. Mrs. Hal D. Davis, 1420 Sopera Ave., will be the hostess Tuesday for the April meeting of the chapter. Speaker will be Rev. David G. Moss.

Cop's Check Gives Info For Arrest

Officer William Just held up a hold up April 5 when he stopped two suspicious men. Just stopped two Negroes, Johnny Webb, 17, and J. L. Clayton, 28, no address given, when they acted suspiciously. He noted some information and let them go when he could uncover no violation. A short while later he got a message from Metro telling of an attempted holdup using a stolen car. The description fit the two men he had stopped earlier and he reported the information to headquarters which related it. The duo was picked up on the information by Miami police.
