He Was in Wheelchair Before the Fight Began

A legless man in a wheelchair was reportedly struck in the face with a beer bottle in a fight at the Knights of Columbus Hall Saturday night during a party. Gables Officer H. J. Herndon, reported that Hubert M. Forehand, 35, 20735 SW 125th Ter., was struck by Charles F. O'Dom Jr., 36, 14410 SW 112th Ave. The weapon broke and O'Dom cut his right index finger, according to Herndon. Forehand, who charged O'Dom with simple assault, was treated by Gables firemen and at Baptist Hospital.

City Revenues Running 'Hair Ahead' Past Year

City revenue is running a hair ahead of expectations as some departments report gains and others losses, according to City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. in his three-month report. Major losses are reported from occupational license fees, Venetian Pool and building permits. But the losses were offset by gains in golf, transportation and utilities. Some of these "gains" were actually smaller losses than for last year. Net gain to the general fund was $4,726 or .2% of the revenue anticipated for the first quarter. "This is very close, but on the right side," Robinson reported. The city manager cautioned, however, that the first few months of the budget really prove very little.

South Miami $7,500 Xmas Plan Told

Details of a $7,500 Christmas promotion were to be revealed Wednesday morning at a breakfast meeting of the South Miami Shoppers League. The promotion, according to President Al Boas, will include a 500-prize contest topped by a free trip to Paris for two. Winners will have told best why they like to shop in South Miami. They will have also weighed their words carefully because they'll be rationed to 10. Part of the Christmas promotion will involve the City of South Miami and the Chamber of Commerce.

C. FRANK SHAW, chief plumbing inspector for the City of Coral Gables was recently elected director by the American Society of Sanitary Engineers in Little Rock. Mrs. Shaw was elected third vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary. The Shaws live at 11340 SW 93rd St.

Lindsley Recuperating From Shot

A 19-year-old Coral Gables youth who reportedly shot himself accidentally Nov. 7 is reported in "fair" condition at Doctors' Hospital. He is Rocky Lindsley III, 1920 Country Club Prado. A companion, Claude R. Violette, 902 Lisbon St., told Gables police that Lindsley was getting into a car at the Lindsley home when a .22 caliber pistol he had fell out of a holster to the floor of the auto and discharged. The bullet struck Lindsley approximately three inches above the heart and became lodged in his body. He was given emergency treatment by Gables Fire Department before being taken to Doctors' Hospital.
