Mardi Gras-Type Fete Planned for South Miami
An annual fiesta or festival, similar to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans or the Gasparilla Festival in Tampa, is planned for South Miami. A citizens committee, headed by Betty Fox, and sponsored by the South Miami Chamber of Commerce, is laying out plans, according to Bill Ussery Jr., publicity chairman for the group. A contest to pick a name for the event is now underway as the first step in promoting the event. Several names have already been suggested - "Mango Festival," "Sunshine Festival," "Seminole Festival" and "Fiesta Floridida." The winner will receive $100. The money was obtained through local contributors. Contest rules and entry blanks may be obtained at the First Bank & Trust Co. of South Miami, South Miami Federal Savings & Loan Association at City Hall and at the South Miami Chamber of Commerce. Chairman Fox is a member of the Shelks, Town Club and has been active in civic affairs in the South Miami area.

No More Buses
You can't ride a bus to Matheson Hammock any longer. The City of Coral Gables has discontinued its experiment with a route from the Gables terminal to the beach. There was not enough demand to justify it, an official said. The run was started in the summer.
