Ponce Thespians Say, 'Meet Me In St. Louis'
The Ponce Junior High School drama class will present the second play of the year, "Meet Me in St. Louis," on March 9 and 10, in the Ponce Auditorium. Mrs. Vyva Friesema, drama instructor, will direct the production. The admission, 50 cents, will be spent for cold water fountains for the building. This comedy is about a family, the Smiths, with four daughters, and what they do when their father suddenly announces that they are moving to New York. This means another school, loss of boyfriends, and leaving St. Louis just as the World's Fair is about to begin. Mr. Smith, a St. Louis businessman, is played by Barry Diamond. Dore Goodman plays Mrs. Smith, his wife. Their four daughters are played by Florence Fraser as Rose, Jan Mercer as Esther, Linda Brooks as Agnes, and Marlene Ehrlich as Tootie. Their son Lon is played by Terry Durkee. Eric Lemberg will be Grandpa Prophater, Mrs. Smith's father. The Simth's cook, Irish Katie, will be played by Nancy Searle. Their irate neighbor, Mrs. Waughop, is Beth Rielly. Mr. Smith's boss, Mr. Dodge, is Dave Michaelson. David Brummer portrays Mr. Duffy, who is "up to no good." Richard Kaplan is the conductor. Ida Boothby, who is sweet on Lon, will be played by Kim Palmer. Doug Shier acts as John Shepard, who is sweet on Rose. Fred Gregory, who is sweet on Esther, is portrayed by Alex Dickson. Also in the cast will be a live cat, owned by Renee Collins, taking the part of Lady Babbit. At the two performances, fathers and mothers of members of the drama classes will be hosts and hostesses in the auditorium. The members of the cast will be in costume; the play takes place in 1904.
Youth Symphony Will Aid Blind
The All Miami Youth Symphony, under the direction of Robert Strassburg, will present a concert featuring Brazil's renowned pianist, Arnoldo Marchesotti, on March 5 at the Dade County Auditorium. The concert is dedicated to the raising of funds for a Braille Music Library to be established in Florida. Following the concert, symphony members will present a gift of braille equipment to the blind of Brazil. Proceeds of the event will be shared with parents of the blind for the purchase of braille equipment. Tickets are on sale at the Dade County Auditorium and the Sertoma Youth Employment Service, FR 1-7211.
Southwest Band Patrons Club To Square Dance
The annual fish fry and square dance will be held by Southwest Miami High School Band Patrons Club on Friday, March 3, at the Pan Air Recreational Club, 4690 NW 9th St. Dinner will be served from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by professionally called square dancing. Adults $1.25, children 75 cents. Proceeds will be used toward the purchase of an air conditioner for the band room.
Airman Sorbi Promoted
David A. Sorbi, son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Sorbi of 5940 SW 46th St., has been promoted to Airman Second Class. David is stationed at the Air Force base in Okinawa. He entered the service last May.

Baseball Clinic Set For Boys
Boys from 9 through 15 years of age have been invited to attend a baseball clinic at South Miami Junior High School Field tomorrow (Friday) from 7 to 9 p.m. The clinic will be held by coaches from the South Miami Junior Athletic League. The field is located at 6750 SW 60th St. Teams will be formed from boys in the 9-15 age group after a registration period, scheduled from March 6-11. Registration will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. Legal proof of age must be supplied at the time of registration.
Two Win Scholastic Honors At Harvard
Two former Coral Gables High School students have been named to the Dean's List at Harvard College, Cambridge, Mass. Peter F. Conklin, 410 Marmore Ave., and Paul Gerfman, 3830 Alhambra Ct., were named on the list on the basis of their grades for the 1959-60 academic year. In order to be placed on the Dean's List,, a student must maintain an average of "B" or better for the year. Both boys will graduate in 1963.
