UM's 'Band Of The Hour' To Begin Public Concerts
The internationally famous University of Miami "Band of the Hour," seen by over 14,000 on a recent concert tour, will begin its free concert series March 16 at 7:30 p.m. The performances will be held in the University student club patio and are open to the public. Known nationally and in Central America as a band of exceptional blend, intonation and precision, the "Band of the Hour" has been complimented by many nationally-famous musicians. Former music director for the National Broadcasting Company Roy Shields commented on its high musical excellence when he heard the band on its recent tour. Made Requests Former West Point Academy organist Fritz Mayer, American composer and arranger David Bennett, and former Northwestern University director of bands Glenn Cliff Bainum are three of many who have requested the band to perform their pre-published works. Former American Bandmasters Association presidents William D. Revelli, of the University of Michigan, and Harold Bachman, of the University of Florida, are just two of many famous bandsmen who have conducted and praised the symphonic "Band of the Hour." One of Three It is one of only three University bands in the nation to twice host the A.B.A. conventions. Once in 1953, again in 1959. This fine symphonic ensemble will appear on the University campus several times this spring. It will be conducted by director Fred McCall and assistant director William Russell. Other concerts will be March 23, April 20 and 27, May 11 and the last in the series at Dade County Auditorium on May 18.

Crowds Throng Flower Show
The first public flower show of the Coral Gables Garden Club was pronounced an unqualified success by hundreds of visitors from all over south Florida. Just short of 3000 flower lovers thronged to the exhibit during its two day run in the Masonic Temple last Friday and Saturday. Almost 500 viewers jammed the aisles and filled the outside patio during the spring fashion show which was staged on Saturday afternoon by members of the Retail Merchants Division of the Chamber of Commerce. With Juanda McCallum of Pygmalion as narrator, 13 models displayed Florida fashions for every member of the family from tots to grandmothers. Tired but exuberant officers of the Garden Club are already laying plans for a more ambitious show next year. Mrs. M. S. Greene, general chairman, was emphatic in her praise for the fine cooperation which the club received from the city government.
