Gables grad now professor of English at Georgia school
A Coral Gables native has been promoted to professor of English at West Georgia College in Carrollton, Ga. Dr. William S. Doxey, Jr., son of Mrs. Elizabeth Doxey Jones and the late Capt. Doxey, received the appointment. He is a graduate of Coral Gables High School, earned his BA and MA at Florida State University and his PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Professor Doxey is the author of a study dealing with the fiction of Oliver Wendell Holmes. He has also published more than 80 articles, poems and stories. His wife, the former Lyndall Blackburn, is also a Coral Gables High School graduate. They are the parents of three children; Billy, 15, Beth 10, and Latham, 3.

Richard Clinton Warren, son of Dr. and Mrs. C. Clinton Warren, 6925 Camarin St., and Daniel Ingersoll Whittelsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel C. Whittelsey, 710 Catalonia Ave., graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., May 17. Warren majored in German and received a BA degree. He was on the swimming team and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Whittelsey majored in business and was a member of the school's rugby team.
New director
Coral Gables resident Cynthia Brennan Clowes, R.N., has been named director of House on the Bay, 3838 N. Bayshore Dr., a non-institutional facility for problem drinkers. A specialist in treating female alcoholics, Ms. Clowes was formerly with the Women's Alcohol Education Center in Perrine.
Coast Guard grad
Ensign James Stark, son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Stark, 8341 SW 32nd St., will graduate from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., June 2. A graduate of Coral Park Senior High School, he will be stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Ted Kaufman, 66, of 120 SW 40th Ave., has just completed his 40th year of employment with Norton Tire Company. Starting as a bookkeeper in 1936 when there were only two stores, he has progressed to fleet sales for the 22 store chain. A 1930 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Kaufman was the radio voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates prior to moving to Miami.

Navy Chief Sonar Technician Adrian O. Haynie, son of Mrs Mrs. Edith E. Robertson of 8710 SW 103rd Ave., and Navy Fire Control Technician Third Class Bryan K. Boose, son of Mrs. Janice M. Boose of 1123 SW 129th Ave., are participating in "Operating Solid Shield '76," off the coast of North Carolina. Haynie is aboard the guided missile destroyer USS William V. Pratt. Boose is serving on the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.

Maria Teresa Baez of 908 Milan Ave., Coral Gables, has been named winner of a University of Miami merit scholarship. At Gables High, she is a member of National Honor Society, president of the French National Honor Society, a member of the Court Observer program and the Spanish Club.
