Palmetto athletes will be honored at award banquet
Miami Palmetto High will hold its 1976 sports award banquet on Friday night, June 4, at Kings Bay Yacht and Country Club. Athletic Director Wayne Taylor will present letters and awards to some 250 athletes. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. . . . Palmer School held its '76 awards night on May 25 where out of 240 students at the school 16 sports were represented on an interscholastic basis. I can remember when Palmer had only 90 students in the entire school, and that was only threes ago. * * * New gold club champion at Kings Bay is Pat Potsaid who defeated Jim Usich in a close match a couple of weeks ago . . . Gables resident E. Milner Irvin qualified and did pretty well last weekend at the Unlimited Sparkplug Regatta at Miami Marine Stadium. Irvin's son Jim plays football, soccer and baseball as the city's Youth Center . . . South Miami Junior Athletic League is sponsoring another double feature evening movie entertainment at South Miami Junior High, 6750 SW 60th St. More information at 661-7077. * * * Florida International University's Tom Busman will go to the Olympic Trial Camp on June 14 in DeKalb, Ill., as one of the eight top national contenders for a place on the olympic wrestling team . . . Columbus High's John Bow was named the Athlete of the Year by the Knights of Columbus at their annual sports banquet for Catholic schools in South Florida. Bow, a senior, is bound for Kentucky on a full football scholarship . . . Coral Gables High's George Persandi signed with Miami Dade Community College downtown on a baseball scholarship.
