Salvadore tennis courts will be resurfaced soon
Metal strips, instead of chalk lines, mark the clay tennis courts at Salvadore Park. The clay has worn down and the strips create ridges that could easily trip a tennis player with his eyes on his tennis ball instead of his feet. To prevent injuries and to repair the hazardous condition, the Coral Gables City Commission May 25, allocated $9,600 from working capital to resurface Salvadore's eight clay courts. City Manager J. Martin Gainer said the repairs had not been planned in this year's budget, but had been contemplated in budget planning for next year. "People could trip," he said. "I'm all for doing it now." In other action, the commission: • Authorized the city manager to sign a lease with the Dade County School Board giving the city use of Merrick School's Coliseum Park. The city will pay half the maintenance costs at the park. • Granted permission to Publix Super Market to build a 16-space parking lot on Monza Avenue. Commissioners said the lot would be public and could be used by both super market customers and by citizens visiting the new city park being built across the street from Publix. • Extended the lease of the barber shop in the city bus terminal through Nov. 30. • Changed the name of the Civil Preparedness Division to the Disaster Preparedness Division. • Deferred action on County Mananger Ray Goode's proposed agreement on auto inepection stations to the next commission meeting on June 8. • Approved an agreement with Edmund P. Russo for construction and leasing of off-street parking along the 4600 block of Ponce de Leon.
