Voters petitioning for transit reconsideration
The Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce announced this week that over 3,000 Dade voters a have signed petitions asking that the 1972 vote on rapid transit be reconsidered. The petition needs 10,000 signatures by July 15 to place rapid transit before the voters again. The petition asks that Metro not enter any contract for mass transit until voter have approved, in advance, the system's concept, design, operation and financing. Congressional talks Congressman Claude Pepper will hold a meeting to discuss local problems with his constituents on Friday, July 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Coral Gables City Hall. Voter registration Coral Gables and South Miami residents have only two weeks left to register to vote in the fall primary elections on Sept. 7. The election ballot will cover democratic and republican primary offices and the election of the county commissioners and judges. Registration sites in the Coral Gables-South Miami area are: Dadeland Shopping Mall, Seahorse Fountain, Tuesday, July 13 to Thursday, July 15 and Saturday, July 17, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Whitten Building, Student Union, University of Miami, Monday, July 12 to Friday, July 16, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Student Government Center, University of Miami, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, July 12, 14 and 16, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, July 13 and 15 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. South Miami City Hall, 6130 Sunset Dr., Monday, July 12 to Friday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Coral Gables City Hall, 405 Biltmore Way, Monday, July 12 to Friday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Summer classes The Coral Gables Youth Center is now taking registration for its summer classes and recreation.
