Three local military men participated in Bicentennial festivities in New York Harbor on the Fourth of July. Coast Guard Cadets Michael D. Teasley and Charles W. Jenkins, participated in Operation Sail as crewmembers of the Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, the nation's only three masted sail training ship. Jenkins, 18, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie H. Jenkins of 6563 SW 77th Terr., South Miami and a 1975 graduate of South Miami Senior High School. Teasley, 18, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Teasley of 9521 Haitian Dr., and a 1975 graduate of Palmetto Senior High School. Both men are members of the Coast Guard Academy class of 1979. Navy Boiler Technician Third Class David S. Wallesverd, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don R. West of 17720 SW 91st Ave., also participated, as a crewmember of the USS Farragut, a guided missile destroyer sailing in the International Naval Review. Wallesverd graduated from Palmetto High School in 1974. More military Marine Private First Class Angel L. Huertas, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Felix A. Huertas, 5025 SW 102nd Ave., has completed the infantry combat training course at Camp Pendleton, Cal. Coast Guard Seaman Recruit Richard D. Gillespie, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry D. Gillespie, 11762 SW 168th Ter., has completed recruit training at the Coast Guard Training Center, Cape May, N.H. Gillespie is married to the former Terry Foster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Payton Foster, 5331 SW 53rd St. Navy Airman Apprentice William T. Durr, son of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Durr, 11350 SW 42nd Terr., has completed recruit training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, Cal. He's a 1973 graduate of Southwest High School. Airman Ray A. Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mose Russ, 5879 SW 62nd St., has been assigned to Chanute AFB, Ill., after completing Air Force basic training. He's a 1971 graduate of Southwest Senior High School and received his A.A. degree in 1975 at Miami Dade Junior College. Student scoops Martha Shepard graduated from Florida State University on June 12 with a bachelors degree in Social Work. A native of Coral Gables, Martha attended Coral Gables High School before her family moved to Lake Placid. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde B. Shepard. Ken Karger, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gunther Karger and a senior at Palmetto Senior High School, has been selected to participate in Boy's State, a government learning convention at Florida State Union. Ken, who will be sponsored by the Cutler Ridge Post of the American Legion, is a professional magician, a master chess player and vice-president of the Temple Bet Breira Youth Group. New administrator Michael J. Adda, has been named administrator for CG Investment Corporation, a newly founded real estate brokerage and investment firm at 201 Sevilla Ave. in Coral Gables. Adda, his wife, Jill, and their three children, Joanne, 18, Chris, 16 and Sandra,8, live at 13787 SW 66th St.
