Chez Vivian: Dining 'til 3 a.m.

Chez Vivian 7140 SW Eighth St., 261-0288. Hours: Monday to Friday, lunch: noon to 4 p.m.; dinner: 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, dinner: 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. Back bar: Wednesday to Sunday, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. (or later). Front bar and piano lounge: same as daily dinner hours. Ample parking on premises. All major credit cards accepted. Reservations accepted. Two entertainers and very late serving hours distinguish Chez Vivian from many other South Dade restaurants. Del Staton plays the guitar in the cozy bar behind the main dining area and Wally MacNeil plays the piano in the comfortable lounge with the curving wooden bar just inside the front door. The restaurant dishes up selections from its varied continental menu until 3 a.m. every night - giving it a four or more hour edge on most restaurants and giving night owls a new place to try. The menu, revised just a week ago by the restaurant's new management under Jimmy Stewart, sticks to reasonable prices and innovative treatments of standard dishes. The Veal Francaise ($6.95) is lightly battered, lightly lemoned and served with a heaping portion of fettucini noodles in a creamy white sauce. The same noodles accompany the chicken breast Parmigiana for $4.95. Other meat and poultry entrees (all from $4.95 to $8.95) include sliced tenderloin, barbecue spare ribs, Long Island duckling, prime ribs, filet mignon, New York sirloin, chopped beef steak twins and beef la Duetsch (served on rice, sauteed in wine sauce with onions, peppers and mushrooms). All the entrees include a relish tray with horseradish dip, a tossed salad, choice of potato and piping hot garlic bread. Special features on the menu are Chateaubriand for two for $19.95, Caesar salad for two at $3.95, a land and sea platter for $10.95 and a plate with duckling and ribs for $8.25. The seafood selections, all between $4.95 and $7.25 except the $12.95 lobster tails, include almond fried shrimp, broiled red snapper, shrimp scampi, fried snapper almondine and a combination of petite sirloin steak and fried shrimp. The restaurant's decor features gold linen table cloths and brown napkins. The tables all hold candles in gold-glass lanterns. Scrolled brass holders support lanterns along the walls. Black leather captain's chairs offer comfortable seating and a white screen, decorated with wrought iron, separates the dining room into smaller areas. Music plays in the background throughout dinner and the mood is most inviting. — ERICA MEYER

Country jamboree planned

Anything that could happen at an old-fashioned country picnic will be happening indoors Saturday and Sunday, July 17 and 18 as a Country Jamboree is mounted at the Dade County Youth Fair Building to benefit cerebal palsy victims. Country music, greased pole climbing rock and bluegrass concerts and lots of food will only be part of the fun, starting both days at 1 p.m. at Coral Way and SW 109th Ave. Admission is $1 for adults; children under 12 admitted free.
