School registration possible Tuesday
Public school students who have not yet registered for school can do so Tuesday, Sept. 7. There will be no classes that day because it is a teacher workday, but school staff will be on hand. Parents are reminded that kindergarten and first grade students must have birth, health and immunization certificates for registration. Students entering school from out of state also must present certificates of immunization, although it is not a requirement for those transferring within the state or county. Secondary students who have moved into another school area should obtain a transfer from their last school or from the school to which records were sent. Student council Activities at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy are getting off to a busy season with the installation of the Student Council on Sept. 10. Speakers for the ceremony will be Rev. Vincent T. Kelly, superintendant, and Betty Vega, former president of the Student Council. Among students to be installed are Diane Weaver, president; Mariam Diaz-Silveira, vice-president; Katie McCormick secreatry; Gina Thomas, treasurer; and class presidents Ana Catasus '76, Lenor Herrera '77, and Ann Padron '78. Class counselors and members of the Associate Council will also be installed during the ceremony. On Sept. 11, a Newcomers' Tea, sponsored by the Mothers' Guild and the Student Council, will welcome the incoming Class of 1979 and other new students. Female survival "Women: Survival Mechanisms in a Man's World" will be the topic of the membership program of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) membership, coffee, Saturday, Sept. 18. Mrs. Francina Thomas will be the guest speaker of the program to be held at Florida International University, Tamiami Trial and SW 107th Avenue, from 2 to 5 p.m. Anyone with a bachelors degree from a fully accredited four year college or university is invited to attend. Language Coral Park High's Adult Education Center, 8865 SW 16th St., is offering conversational Spanish, French and Hebrew during the fall trimester. Limit the number of consecutive terms in office of Congressmen. 11. Maintain a strong national defense. 12. Restore capital punishment. 13. Oppose the Castro Regime in Cuba. 14.
