Charged with assault

From Page 1 taken to American Hospital. Minutes after the Sunday mishap, police arrested Valido at his ranch, 13500 SW 40th St., and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault. According to officers, additional charges of animal cruelty are expected to be leveled against him. He was released on $5,000 bond. According to Det. Jack Courtney of the Public Safety Department's Concord substation, Machin had been arrested Jan. 24 on charges of rustling Valido's cattle: four black Angus and two Brangus calves — with a total value of $4,400. Witnesses claimed they saw Machin. who owns Rancho Boyero nearby, roping cattle on Valido's land. The case, however, was dismissed, and the rustling of Valido's herd continued, the detective said. The rancher complained that not only were his cattle disappearing, but his fences were being torn down and he was getting swamped with citations for having several of his animals running loose. Police later found that Machin was under contract with the Humane Society to pick up loose livestock.
