University Building Pushes Our Totals Still Higher in '61

A rash of construction at the University of Miami has shot construction totals sky high for the past two weeks to nearly $2.5 million. Construction here continues to run ahead of last year. Topping the UM construction was the $2,220,000 permit issued by the City of Coral Gables for a 720-woman dormitory. Other UM construction included the $25,000 Sigma Chi fraternity house; University of Miami Clinic, $25,000, and alterations to the Westminster Chapel, $13,000. Values do not include the cost of land. Permits issued week of August 14-18 totalling $2,329,350: Rev. C. F. Coleman, 5510 Alhambra Cir., residence, $29,500. N. Baron, 1463 Cecilia Ave., residence, $25,500. M. H. Murphy, 1424 Cadiz Ave., addition, $800. Coral Gables High, 400, Bird Rd., addition, $12,500. University of Miami Sigma Chi, fraternity house, addition, 6100 San Amaro Dr., $25,000. University of Miami, 720 dormitory, 1101 Miller Dr., $2,220,000. Graham Construction Co., 4915 Sunrise Ct., residence, $33,600. Dingsoli Construction Co., 206 Ponce de Leon Blvd., addition, $2,130. Steak for Blood

A filet mignon and a cocktail for a pint of blood is the trade offered by the Elks Club Sept. 7. The mobile blood bank will be at the club between 5 and 7:30 p.m. to relieve donors of the precious stuff. Donors may credit their own fraternal organization, according to Chairman Franklin F. Brooks.

Russell Rasco Named to Group

Russell A. Rasco, former dean of the University of Miami Law School, has replaced Francis C. LaVigne on the City's Bi-Racial Committee. LaVigne gave frequent absences from the city for his resignation.

Judea Sisterhood Plans Meeting

"Getting to Know You" will be the theme of the first fall meeting of Temple Judea's Sisterhood, to be held Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. at the temple here. President, Rita Goldberg, said the meeting will serve to introduce Mrs. Norma Podet, wife of the temple's new rabbi, together with old and new members of Sisterhood.
