Two teenage girls who really shoplifted the Mile are serving 30 days in City Jail for their carelessness in getting caught. Judge Charles Battisti, specially appointed by the City Commission Aug. 22 to substitute for Charles Spooner, the regular municipal judge, fined the two shoplifters $160 each on two counts of shoplifting, but ordered them to serve the sentence when they were unable to pay the fine. The girls were identified as Gussie Mae Webb, 18, of 3615 Thomas Ave., and Carolyn Kelly, 17, of 135 South Dixie Hwy. Ira Willard Leaves For Virginia Post; Who'll Succeed Him?

Now that the news of President Dutch Willard's resignation at City National Bank is known, the interest is centering on who his successor will be. The bank's board of directors is not scheduled to meet again until the third Thursday in September (15th). It was a surprise even to Willard's family that he was leaving Coral Gables to become project director for a city of suburban homes and stores to be built about 15 miles from Washington, D.C. A job interview had been offered Willard in the middle of the week. He flew to New York spent a night and day with the project's backer and they came to terms. His board of directors received his resignation Thursday of last week. Willard attended a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce board of directors that same night but said nothing about it. It was not until Friday that word leaked out on the change. City National, the youngest of the city's three banks, opened in September, 1956. Willard became president Feb. 1, 1960, with no more banking experience than handling his own checking account. However, he had other experience that City National, following a trend in the banking industry, placed value on. His background in municipal government (city manager of Alexandria, Va., Hopewell, Va., Coral Gables and Miami) had put him in touch with finance. Moreover, his pleasant manner and interest in people were IRA (DUTCH) WILLARD An informal "dutch" treat will be held today (Thursday) from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Coral Gables Country Club. Friends of Dutch Willard are invited to gather there for a farewell toast to the Gableite banker. the qualities many banks were accentuating as they drifted away from the old emphasis on a "loan" president and placed, instead, a man in the job who excells in personal relations. Willard's bank had $9.2 million in deposits when he joined it a year and a half ago. The institution's deposits on its June 30th statement stood at $14.3 million. In banking, this is regarded as a substantial gain. The Willards plan to keep their Coral Gables home. They'll be leaving tomorrow (Friday) for Virginia. His job there will involve managing and coordinating the development of a 6,750-acre tract. Willard said he regrets leaving the bank but that "the opportunities offered me in this new post were too attractive to miss. "I shall always hold a warm place in my heart for Coral Gables, Miami and Dade County."
