Life Around the Gables

OUR CITY takes many shapes. These men are adding to its physical dimension by constructing an office building on the old Times office site, Salzedo and Aragon. Taking a luncheon break, left to right, are Patrocinio Bravo, a former Cuban army captain who left his country; Osmundo Martinez; and Bob Bullen. For a look at the men at work, see below. Club Hopes For Space On Parking

The All-States Friendship Club is hoping the City Commission will change its mind about limiting and changing parking around their meeting place—Salvadore Park. Commissioners recently limited parking to the Andalusia Avenue side. Parking was once permitted on the Columbus Boulevard and Avenue Valencia sides and also in an unpaved area in back of the clubhouse. "We did not ask for additional parking," said L. O. Whitaker, president of the senior citizen's club. "All we want is the privilege of parking in some areas where we were permitted to park before," Whitaker said. The club feels that limiting parking on Andalusia will work a hardship on the older people using the facilities because of the greater distance some of them will have to walk to get there. They point out also that they will have to compete with St. Philip's Episcopal Church for parking space. Neighbors in the area of Salvadore Park have complained to the City about double parking and noise. Whitaker said that these problems could be worked out and that double parking had already been eliminated as a source of trouble.
