More Space For Negro Quarters?
A proposal to upgrade minimum footage requirements in Coral Gables' Negro section has gone to the Zoning Board for study. The proposal, made last week by Commissioner Joe Murphy, calls for increasing the 750 square foot minimum now allowed in that area to a higher figure. Murphy told the Commission that the present requirement is instrumental in maintaining low housing standards. Upping the standard would force property owners to build larger homes, Murphy said.
He Wants New Zoning
The Coral Gables Zoning Board has received for study a proposal to change to residential zoning all commercial property with 25 per cent or more residential use. Commissioner Joe Murphy made the proposal last week. The board will also study changing to CD zoning those now listed as CC where there is residential occupancy. The CD commercial and residential zoning requires a higher caliber of businesses than CC commercial.
Royal Castle's Sign Is Nixed
A proposal to erect a detached parking lot sign for the new Royal Castle Restaurant at 2215 Ponce de Leon Blvd. has been unanimously turned down by the Coral Gables Zoning Board. The Board of Architects was also opposed to the location of the sign, but not the sign design itself. The sign would have been 11 feet in height.

It is a time of year when the ambitious homeowner is planning the traditional Thanksgiving Day weekend party when friends and families gather. A Man's International Flight Wardrobe
"There is quite a bit of information around on how to pack for international travel within the 44-pound tourist and economy weight limit, but perhaps because passport statistics show that more women than men are traveling the past few years, most of the information is directed toward the feminine sex. The men have been getting short shrift, and their problem is quite as urgent. Men's suits and men's shoes tend to weigh more than dresses and strip sandals," Bill Mason of Travel Inc. said. Before thinking of what is to go in the bag — choose the right bag. The American luggage industry has been catching up with the jet age. There is a wide variety of lightweight pieces generally available now. Canvas, plastic and aluminum are all practical choices. For the larger piece which will ride in the baggage compartment, choose a size and shape that will take slacks and jackets with only one fold. Take a small overnight case into the plane with you. Many airlines supply these. Into it will go toilet articles, an extra handkerchief, folding slippers and a sweater. It's a convenient bag for short side trips off your main itinerary, also. Anything that you are happy wearing in one of the new miracle synthetics that dry overnight, by all means take. This includes underwear, socks and pajamas. Shirts may be another story. There is nothing that will ever replace the look of a well-ironed broadcloth. Laundry service in most cities throughout the globe is excellent, with 24 to 72-hour service. If your plans call for more than a two-day stay in most places, by all means take broadcloth with one drip-dry for emergencies. On faster-moving schedules, three drip-dry shirts will amply cover all situations.
