Burton Weds McKinley; On Trip to Lauderdale
MRS. WILLIAM BURTON Kathleen Mary McKinley became the bride of William Edward Burton in Catholic ceremony Saturday. The couple, after a wedding trip to Ft. Lauderdale, will continue on to Corpus Christi, Texas, where they will reside. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. McKinley of 6301 Caballero Blvd. The groom is the son of Mrs. Thomas E. Burton, 159 NW 79th St., Miami and the late Mr. Burton. Given in marriage by her father, the bride's floor-length candlelight satin gown was made with fitted bodice, Sabrina neckline with long point on hand sleeves, and seed pearl trim. The voluminous skirt fell into a chapel train. Her head-piece held the full illusion veil and she carried a bouquet of white roses. Mrs. William Van Wambeck was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. William A. McKinley Jr., Mrs. Carey Findlay, Mrs. James Reilly, Miss Nancy Jo Harbett and Miss Charlotte Tanner. The six attendants wore floor-length gowns of Viennese purple satin and carried bouquets of pale pink carnations and Vanda orchids. Frederick Clark was best man. Ushers were William A. McKinley Jr., Thomas E. Burton Jr., Cary Findlay, Paul Reilly, Richard Lee and Daniel Burton. The Rev. John O'Dowd officiated at the 5:30 p.m., double ring, candlelight ceremony. The reception followed at the South Miami Elks Club. The bride's mother wore a champagne beige silk crepe gown. The mother of the groom was in pale orchid chiffon and lace, white accessories. Both matrons wore orchids. The bride was graduated from Coral Gables High School and the University of Florida. The groom graduated from Miami Edison High School and from the University of Florida where he was a member of Sigma Nu, social fraternity, and Block and Bridle, honorary.
PEOPLE Places & Things
BECKY DOYLE-QUINN Gables High graduate of June and a member of our staff this summer, called home excitedly Tuesday night to report she was elected to represent the 1,800-member freshman class at the University of Florida on the Women's Student Association. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Quinn of 2390 S. Miami Ave., Becky twitted her daddy that he has his election yet to win. That would be next week's vote on the McLeod amendment, for which Quinn is a publicist. She's pledged Alpha Chi Omega sorority. ★ ★ ★ The Boosters Club for Coral Gables High expects to net about $1,000 on its $2,500 barbecue gross last month, according to President Phil Chastain. ★ ★ ★ City National Bank, our affluent neighbor just north of us, is featured in the 29th annual edition of "Florida Architecture" for reasons that are obvious to anyone who's inspected the institution's premises. ★ ★ ★ MAYOR ROBERT SEARLE picked up his 13-year perfect attendance pin at Rotary Club. ★ ★ ★ It's almost like being in the service and being home at the same time for A 2-C Kenneth Edward Benson Jr., 19, 1302 Asturia Ave. Benson, a Coral Gables High School graduate, was recently transferred from Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville, N.C., to Homestead Air Force Base, where he is learning the mechanics of the B-52 intercontinental bomber. ★ ★ ★ If you thought that was a familiar Gableite face holding that glass of Schenley's in an advertisement in our paper last week you're correct. The ad was in Suburbia Today, our monthly supplement. The face is that of Ike Macy, one-time CG Country Club tennis pro now living at 12055 SW 73rd Ave. He's under contract to the distillers for the next year for modeling. ★ ★ ★ Former Mayor Fred Harnett, cast in a new role when he had a painful accident recently (broken kneecap), expected to be up and around at home this week after removal of the cast. He'll have to use crutches for awhile, however.
