Vegetables Plus Hair Set New Look for Coiffures

By ELVA CHARLTON Correspondent If you would like to keep your head while everybody else is losing theirs, pamper it with a new vegetable hairdo. I don't mean to extract the vegetable juice and rub it on your head. I mean actually have your hair set in one of the vegetable styles, new crop variety: Artichoke, asparagus, spinach, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower or mushroom. The new pampered look must be cultivated, too. This guarantees you all kinds of things. You no longer have to worry about your husband not noticing you, or your failing health or looks. Instead you can be sure you have lost your mind. Who needs their mind anyway the way the world is today. But suppose you follow my advice and have the mushroom do. You are convinced you have done something for yourself. You feel fine. Then you go to bed and wake up with the spinach do instead. Now you frighten the children and the dog just sits up and howls. Your family really must take action. Comb it? The comb won't go through. Stand in front of the electric fan to cool off and you now look like broccoli with hair four or five inches high. There's nothing to do but cut it all off. Shut your eyes while you cut. Grope your way to the bathroom, wet the comb and comb it all forward on your forehead. Voila! — asparagus do. Nothing to do now but wait for the ambulance. A recent article goes on to debunk the "Old Wives' Tales." There's no such thing as "I was so scared my hair stood on end." "Don't blame the red head for her flaming temper." "Her hair turned white overnight." Yet we see these things happen all the time. But I'm all for the hair stylists and the fashion designers who are trying to shock women out of their lethargy. Women have always been alerted to be conscious of their looks during world emergencies. It's supposed to lend the stabilizing factor to the men. A husband can now go off to the armed forces knowing that everything at home will be all right. The children will probably survive, he thinks. At least with his wife so conscious of vegetables, they won't starve to death. LETTUCE MUSHROOM

Teenagers—Learn To Dance

In order to be popular and "one of the crowd," it is important for your daughter to know how to dance. She can be sweet and pretty, but it is no fun being a wallflower! Help her to gain confidence by learning the special dances teenagers do. BOYS TOO! Boys must know the current dances. Don't let him stand on the sideline feeling shy because he doesn't know how to dance and join the crowd. The Hully Gully, Slow Dancing, Watusi, Bristol Stomp, Twist are only a few of the dances teenagers want to know. Join a special class for teenagers and preteens . . . learn the American Bandstand dances only the young folk do and enjoy. The studio is located in South Miami, two blocks past the South Miami Library and 1/2 block off Sunset Drive, 7310 S.W. 62nd Place, Phone MO 7-3722 or MO 1-4218.
