10th Holers Mix Golf & Fun

DURING THE Tenth Holers' dinner last week awards were made. Some of the winners were standing, left to right, Bill McKone, Bill Lewis, Jim Culve and Joe Fagan. Kneeling are Warren Meek and Al Dohre. Twenty three members of the Coral Gables Country Club got together six years ago to organize a golfing group within the club. By unanimous consent it was called The Tenth Holers, and Dr. T. Lyle Hazlett elected first president. The idea of a golf club got so much response within the club membership, that pretty soon the number of applicants exceeded the number of people that the golf course could accommodate on Saturday morning. By-laws were drawn and approved, and the membership limited to 95 active members and 45 associate members, as it stands today. The Tenth Holers play the Granada Golf course every Saturday from 7:45 a.m. until late in the afternoon. A business meeting is held at 1 p.m. at which time results of the tournaments are read, besides the weekly play, with prizes given. Eight regular tournaments are held every year. Besides encouraging good golf, the group has also set up a social schedule, with some outings to other clubs. This year, the group visited Naples for a week-end of golf, fishing and entertainment. There are two main social events every year; the Annual Awards Dinner (see picture) and the Christmas Dinner. President officers of the club are William McKone, president; Walter Zimmerman, vice president, and Rollo Budde, secretary-treasurer.

We also sell a funny-looking car.

© 1961 VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC. We also sell a funny-looking car. We sell a car that looks like a beetle. And a station wagon that looks like a bus. But we (and all our fellow VW dealers) think of them a little differently. We think both VWs look just like what they are. The VW Sedan carries 4 people. The station wagon carries 8 (bag and baggage). The wagon also handles a staggering amount of just stuff. (It has 170 cubic feet of space, compared to about 105 in conventional wagons.) Both VWs have air-cooled rear engines. (No water or anti-freeze needed; terrific traction on ice and snow.) Both park in practically the same space. (The wagon is only 9 inches longer than the sedan.) Both defy obsolescence. (Nobody knows what year Volkswagen you drive. Except you.) And both have restored a sense of proportion to the size of cars. The VW Sedan is a pretty familiar sight, so not too many people laugh at it any more. But the VW wagon is still good for a few chuckles. Suggestion: have some fun yourself. Come and take either or both for a ride today. MONARCH MOTORS, INC.
