WINNERS IN THE Gables Civitian Essay Contest

for 1962 were Lynn Osborne (left), second prize; Christina Halley (right), honorable mention; and Jose R. Rivero, grand prize (not pictured). Some 850 members of the Gables High social studies classes participated on the topic, "Democracy Versus Communism as a Way of Life."

Four of City Drivers In Road-E-O Finals

Four outstanding Coral Gables drivers will represent the City in the Fourth Annual South Florida Governmental Road-E-O to be held at Dinner Key Auditorium June 2. They are Officer William Just; Ronald Pickard, garage employe; Robert Assenmacher, Public Service, parks division; and James A. Moore, Public Service, wastes division. In addition to representing the City in the Road-E-O, the four employes won three days' annual leave. Here are all the first second and third place winners in that order in the various divisions: Passenger car, Just, Arvis Porter and Fred Swanson. Pick-up, Pickard, Paul Rudasill and John Harrison. Stake Body, Walter Murphy, Bernard Paparella and Marvin Tucker. Dump, Assenmacher, Manuel Santiago and Joseph White. Waste, Moore, James Adkinson and Howell Roberts. Trash, J. Harry McGrane, James Christmans and Paul Goins. Bus, Winnett Wright, Currie Cull Jr. and Earl Terry. Second place winners got two days leave and third place, one day.

53 Five-Year-Olds End Day School at Granada

Fifty-three five-year-olds had the pomp and circumstance of graduation from kindergarten from Granada Day School held last Friday evening. EYE HURT

Adolfo Arenas, 31, of 3321 SW 88th St., was treated at Doctors' Hospital Monday after part of a burning match broke off and hit him in the eye. Arenas was working at Burger King, 1100 South Dixie Hwy., when the accident occurred.
