Their Gift of Work Brings Gift of $$$

THAT CHECK being presented Dr. Thomas S. Gowin by Mrs. Leonidas W. Dowlen is for $2,500 to Doctors' Hospital. Although the Auxiliary of Doctors' Hospital in Coral Gables is less than two years old, its membership consisting of 92 wives of staff members, has achieved considerable success in raising money for this medical institution. This has been accomplished through operation of, and revenue received from the hospital's Gift Shop, a once-a-year fund raising benefit, and other programs. On National Hospital Day, last week, the Auxiliary presented to the John T. MacDonald Foundation, operators of Doctors' Hospital, a check for $2,500. It will be used for the purchase of surgical equipment and a new intercom system. The Gift Shop at Doctors' is open seven days a week. Forty eight women, including members of the Auxiliary and volunteers, donate approximately 3,600 hours a year on this project. The Auxiliary also staffs the information desk at the hospital on a five-day a week basis, and provides library service three days a week. Another source of revenue is photographing new-born babies a few hours after birth. These pictures are taken by a nurse in the maternity wing. First president of Doctors' Hospital Auxiliary was Mrs. Willard L. Fitzgerald. During the past year, Mrs. L. W. Dowlen has served as president, with Mrs. Robert P. Keiser, first vice president. Management of the Gift Shop was under the direction of Mrs. Frances Cook. On Monday new officers for the coming year were installed at a meeting held in the home of Mrs. Edward Preston, 1215 Alhambra Cir. New officers of the Auxiliary to be installed are Mrs. Wesley Nock, president; Mrs. Roger Forestier, first vice president; Mrs. Robert P. Keiser, recording secretary; Mrs. William T. Mixson, treasurer; Mrs. Henry Caffee, assistant treasurer; Mrs. Eugene Stanton, corresponding secretary.
