Fraser, Goelzer Tops at Ponce

Susan Fraser, 4090 Hardee Rd., and Kay Goelzer, 413 Savona Ave., are recipients of the Faculty Scholarship Award given at Ponce de Leon Junior High School. Honorable mention for the award went to Jock Mills, 226 Velard Ave., and Jonny Stein, 740 Calatrava Ave. This award is given to the 9th grade students having the highest scholastic average during the three years at Ponce. In the annual awards assembly last Friday, others honored were: The American Legion Award, given for character, service, scholarship and leadership went to Dale Brumbaugh, 1346 Alegriano Ave., and Jeff Leigh, 5211 Granada Blvd. Barrie Boone, 8330 SW 52nd Ave., and Joe Gardner, 7901 SW 52nd Ct., were given honorable mention. Departmental awards were also given: English, Sue Copp, 1424 Obispo Ave.; social studies, Kay Goelzer, mathematics, David Bencivenga, 322 Manor Pl.; Latin, Bruce Pither, 1 S. Prospect Dr.; Spanish Kay Goelzer, 413 Savona Ave. Science, David Bencivenga; band, Janet Rogers, 4165 Poinciana Ave., and Arnold Reichert, 7900 SW 52nd Ct.; orchestra, Frank Kilgard, 4635 SW 10th St.; chorus, Alicia Theo, 636 Camilo Ave. Shop, Jim Chaltas, 234 Santilane Ave.; graphic arts, Richard Davis, 915 Placetas Ave. Homemaking, Debbie Rose, 7269 SW 54th Ave.; journalism, Nora Gatti, 333 Velarde Ave; dramatics, Diane Falk, 650 Coral Way. $36 Stolen From Cleaners

Approximately $36 was reported stolen from Town and Country Cleaners, 1415 Sunset Dr., May 14. The owner, Marvin Henderson, said the theft from a cash drawer occured while he stepped in a back room with a customer.

'The Man' Opens Tuesday at 'M'

Beryl Taylor, local actress, will open in the feature role of Mrs. Gillis opposite Jay Robinson in "The Man" at Studio M Playhouse Tuesday night, May 29. The playwright Mel Dinelli wrote "Suspicion" and "Sorry Wrong Number."
