First Rader Hearing Set For Evening of June 4

(Editorial on page 4) The first public hearing on the Rader and Associates survey and zoning recommendations for Coral Gables will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 4 at the Youth Center. Another meeting has been set tentatively for June 8 and a third meeting will be held if interest warrants it, City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. said. The Rader report, recently completed and submitted to the City Commission, covers the subject of high rise buildings, civic center near City Hall, Sunrise Harbour, the entire South end of the Gables, special zoning problems such as the Burdine's Tract, and other improvements.

Publix' South Gables Unit Will Face Nervia Street

Publix Supermarket will face Nervia Street, the Board of Architect and the Coral Gables Zoning Board have decided. The new market, designed by Charles N. Johnson, is expected to be started this week sometime. Plans are being studied by the Building Department and a permit was expected to be issued this week. The question of facing was introduced by John E. Vinsant, secretary of the Zoning Board after the Building Department had presented drawings indicating a facing at 1401-1451 Monza Avenue. O. K. Houstoun Jr., who sits on the Board of Architects and who is also associate architect on the Publix market, appeared before the zoning board to present the board's recommendation that the legal facing be changed to Nervia. Neighborhood residents opposed the Publix market last year when the chain proposed to build on the rear of the lot after the City Commission vacated an alley on first reading. The Commission later reversed itself, but Publix decided to go ahead and build on the front of the tract,

Water Study Is Delayed

Completion of an interim report on a survey of Consumers Water Company water rates has been delayed by the inclusion of new information to study and other work. This is the word from Internal Auditor Paul Glenan who was to have presented his report this week. Glenan has been busy with a group of University of Miami students interviewing local merchants over the new commercial personal property form.
