WHEN JOSE Maturna's wife Ramona had their second child at Doctor's Hospital recently, Jose was upset because, as a painter he had been unemployed and couldn't pay just now. The staff at Doctor's delivered the child (doing nicely, thank you) and put Jose to work helping repaint the whole interior.

Street Work Bids

Bids are scheduled to be opened next Tuesday on the downtown street improvement program recently authorized by the City Commission following a series of public hearings. The work entails rebuilding of Aragon Avenue from Le Jeune Road to Merrick Way; repaving of Valencia and Andalusi& Avenues from Le Jeune Road to Douglas Road; Salzedo Street from Almeria Avenue to Navarre Avenue and Galiano Street from Almeria to Merrick Way. City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. said that work will begin approximately 10 days after the award of contracts and should be completed in 45 days. Robinson foresaw no serious delays caused by construction. Except for Aragon, which will be completely rebuilt as well as repaved, the rest of the streets should not be closed for any longer than one-half day while pavement is laid. The same procedure will be followed as that used recently on Giralda Avenue, Robinson said. Giralda was closed completely only when the pavement was put on. Improvement of the remainder of the streets under the City's street improvement program in residential areas will follow later.
