REHEARSING FOR "Joan," which opens at the Coco Plum Woman's Club Nov. 17 for a three day showing, are Bob Gusman, 6232 Leonardo St., and Judi Stoeber, 120 SW 20th Ave. Miss Stoeber, the female lead, Joan, and Mr. Gusman, who portrays Brother Ladvenee, will appaer with a local cast when the curtain rises at 8:30 p.m. on the George Blackwood presentation.
At Coco Plum Woman's Club Original Play Will Have Local Cast
By LARRY LEDWELL "Joan," an original play by Frank Meyer, will be shown at the Coco Plum Woman's Club at 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 17, 18 and 19. The Coco Plum Woman's Club, 1375 Sunset Dr., has been leased for this production. Several prominent New York producers will be on hand for the opening performance. Violla Rubber, producer of Tennessee William's "Night of the Iguana" on Broadway and Lucille Lortel, producer of "Three Penny Opera" in New York, will attend opening night. Lucille Lortel owns the White Barn Theater in Wesport, Conn., and the DeLye Theater off Broadway. 35 Years Producer George Blackwood, well known in theatrical circles, has been in show business for 35 years. At the age of 8, he played his first part with George M. Cohen at the Chicago Opera House. Among his theatrical achievements are five Broadway plays and 14 Warner Brothers movies. As production manager for the Coconut Grove Playhouse, he produced "Auntie Mame" with Gypsy Rose Lee, the new Tennessee William's play "Night of the Iguana" and Gretchen Wyler's "Red Head." He directed and starred in "Debureau" at the Three Arts Theater and was director of the Miami Music Theater. He also directed Ed Seney's "Simon's Bounty" for the South Miami Elks Club and Dan Carlin's new musical "Mimi" at the DuPont Plaza Hotel. Blackwood said, "I am interested in promoting new writers, but I want plays that will go on. Frank Meyer has great promise." Lead Part Judy Stoeber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K. E. Stoeber of 1931 SW 64th Ct., will play the part of Joan. Judy won the Thespian Award at West Miami Junior High School in 1956 and 1957. She was graduated from International Business College and Madamoiselle Fashion Academy. She also won a scholarship from the Tides Conservatory of Fine Arts. Frank Meyer, the author, has written several short stories and plays. "Joan" is his first play to be produced. While with the Air Force in Germany, he studied the life of St. Joan in Paris and the Lorraine country in France. He also did research at the Rheims Cathedral where she was sainted. Two Acts "Joan" is a play in two acts. It is about the last six days of St. Joan's life. The action takes place in her cell in the tower of the Castle of Rouen. Ted Waterbury, who has appeared in "Witness for the Prosecution" at the Coconut Grove Playhouse, has the male lead. Some of the principal players are Ann Shaw, who has appeared at the Coconut Grove Playhouse; Jim Smyth, who has appeared at the First Actor Theater, and Adrienne Pyms, who has done summer stock. Tickets for the three performances are $2.20 and $1.25. Student tickets are half price. Reservations can be made by calling the Coco Plum Woman's Club.

New Civitan Club Will Receive Charter
The newly organized Civitan Club of Southwest Miami, with a roster of 25 members, will receive its charter at a dinner Saturday night at the Garden Restaurant. Members and their wives will attend. Officers are Charles A. Vaughn, president; Herman T. Isif, vice president; Joseph T. Ball, Jr., secretary; Lee R. Erwin, treasurer; the Rev. Charles W. Greene, chaplain, and Connie Seiz, chairman of publicity. The new club also elected its board of directors at a luncheon Wednesday. They are Norman L. Green, Robert E. Venney, Edward N. Tescher, Henry M. Cain and John F. Laisney. Immediate projects include the March of Dimes in which the Civitans will participate and sale of fruit cake sponsored by the Civitans from all over the state.
Venetian Pool Bathers Report Car Breakin
J. Gustavo Suarez and Norberto Blanco, 444 SW Fourth St., were victimized by thieves as they enjoyed themselves at Venetian Pool. When they returned to their car they found that someone had forced a vent window open and helped themselves to their property. Suarez lost a wallet containing $25 and his identification papers, Blanco lost a watch, $15 and identification papers.
