Missionaries To Brazil Will Speak Here

The Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth Traxler, Methodist missionaries from Pilares, Brazil, will speak at the First Methodist Church of South Miami, Ponce de Leon Blvd. and Red Rd., Sunday and Monday, Nov. 6-7. A two day Missions Institute is being sponsored by the Commission on Missions of the South Miami Methodist Church and is open to the public. Mr. Traxler will preach at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. He will speak Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on the work of the missionary, followed by a question and answer period. On Monday evening at 7:30 Mr. Traxler will show films of his work in Brazil, illustrating the limitations and the opportunities that he found in the large outlying suburb of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Mr. and Mrs. Traxler, natives of Alachua, Fla., have been missionaries in Brazil for five years. Their work there has consisted of preaching, house to house visitation, kindergarten services for needy children, rehabilitation work with converted prison boys, music and choir direction and constructing the permanent all-purpose education building named in honor of Bishop John Branscomb.

Her hat is of orange velvet trimmed with matching feathers.

Charles Rubin's Bar Mitzvah Is November 4

Mr. and Mrs. Max Rubin, 605 SW 68 Ave., invite all their friends to attend services on Friday evening, Nov. 4, at Temple Zion to honor their son, Charles Barry, on his Bar Mitzvah and special Veterans Day services followed by an Oneg Shabbat. Mrs. Rubin is state department president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Jewish War Veterans. The invitation is for Saturday morning services as well which will be followed by a kiddush of santification. Charles (Chucky) Rubin has been attending religious school for the past 6 years and has participated in all youth activities at the temple. His activities include Boy Scouts. He is a trumpet player in the band at Kinloch Junior High. His Godmother, Mrs. Lil Bresher, is flying in from New York for the events. Also expected from New York are his uncle, Jack Glasser and Mickey Glasser and Mrs. Betty Goldsmith and Mrs. Bessie Allen, great aunts from Los Angeles, and Mrs. Gerry McCary, an aunt. Date Is Set For Bazaar At St. Thomas

The annual bazaar sponsored by the women of St. Thomas Episcopal Church will be held Nov. 12, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. The event will feature a barbecue dinner presented by the men of the church. Purpose of the affair is to raise money to fulfill a $1000 pledge to the church. The women make this pledge each year. The bazaar is their method of obtaining the necessary money. To raise the funds, the women have set up a bake shop, white elephant booth and other booths. Fun will be provided for the children with rides and game booths. The charge for supper will be 85 cents for children and $1.50 for adults.

University Baptist Names Minister Of Music

Dr. T. Rupert Coleman, pastor of the University Baptist Church, announced that the church has called Mr. Cecil L. Harper, native of Hattiesburg, Miss., as Minister of Music, effective Nov. 1. Mr. Harper attended Mississippi Southern College, and was graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1956 with a degree in sacred music. During his Seminary training, Mr. Harper served the First Baptist Church, Petal, Miss., and the East Howard Baptist Church, Biloxi, Miss. Kentucky Pastorate Upon his graduation from the seminary, Mr. Harper was called to the First Baptist Church, Princeton, Ky., where he served for three years. In February 1959, he began his ministry with the West Laurel Baptist Church, Laurel, Miss., where he has served before coming to the University Baptist Church. Mr. Harper is a bass-baritone soloist. He has sung solo parts in the following oratiros and operas: "Elijah" by Mendelssohn; "Messiah" by Handel; "The Creation" by Haydn; "Seven Last Words" by DuBois; "The Crucifixion" by Stainer; "Robin Hood" by DeKoven; "Gianni Schicci" by Puccini; "La Boheme" by Puccini; and "Amahl and The Night Visitors" by Menotti. Three Children Mrs. Harper is a graduate of Mississippi Southern College. They have three children. Dr. Coleman returns to his pulpit on Nov. 6, after having concluded a series of revival meetings at the First Baptist Church, Winter Park. CECIL HARPER

Mobile Blood Bank To Stop At Church

A Dade County mobile blood bank will move to the South Miami Lutheran Church, Sunset at SW 71st Ave., Nov. 16. Individuals and groups may donate in their name or to any organization of their choice. Free dinners will be prepared for donors. The church will open from 5 to 8 p.m. for donations.
