by helen reynolds society editor The Coral Gables Country Club is gay and cool inside in spite of the fact that dust is flying outside where excavations are going on for the club's new swimming pool. We were there Thursday. Kathryn (Mrs. L. D.) Murphy, 815 Lisbon St., was having a luncheon in the patio entertaining ladies of all ages. She was honoring Mrs. Andrew Gibson of Toronto, who is here visiting her son-in-law and daughter, the Pat Murphy's. Kathryn also honored Mrs. Stephen Totten, formerly of Coral Gables now of Pikesville, Md., and the five little girls, the youngest, two-year-old, Nancy Totton, sat bibbed and tuckered in a high chair. Kathryn's guests ordered from the menu, and Debbie Totton, aged four, said she'd have a poached egg on toast — and got it. Diane, six, was the third Totton, and then there were the Murphy girls, Kathy, six, and Patti, five. The four little girls had fun playing in the halls and we ran into them first, as we chatted with the attractive Barbara McNamara., She was busy at the club's telephone taking reservations for the club's Little Theater play, "Angel Street," which opened Tuesday night and will continue tonight and Friday night. The club, spacious and beautifully furnished throughout, is the oldest private country club in Coral Gables. Its large foyer boasts a fireplace with woodburning facilities. On the wall next to double doors opening into the dining room is a framed picture containing the names and years of 25 past country club presidents. There's space for 25 more. An art gallery to the west of the foyer is intriguing. It is the most traveled since a stairway leads to the Granada room on the second floor. The Red Room is where private dinner parties are held. Currently showing her framed paintings in oils is Mrs. Ann Morbusch, 724 Madeira Ave., who only studied for about a year before executing some good work. Her colors are rich and the composition is good. Mrs. Morbusch turned from real estate to art for a hobby. She should succeed at this, too. ANN The Coral Gables Welcome Wagon Club members were having a luncheon for the installation of new officers. They have had it at this club since the Welcome Wagon organized in 1949. On the other side of the room divider, workmen were busy erecting iron structures for the elaborate ball decorations for the Coral Gables Woman's Club third annual debutante presentation Friday night. Miss Nancy Virginia Denham, bride-elect of Floy Bonell Denton, will be honored at a coffee Saturday, April 22, at the home of Mrs. Winston Gardner, 7575 SW 47th Ct. Co-hostess with Mrs. Gardner will be Mrs. Hal Hardin. About 75 guests will attend the 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. affair. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Denham, 418 SW 29th Rd., former long-time Coral Gables residents. On a round-the-world flight are Mr. and Mrs. Ted Reducka and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Connell, all of Coral Gables, who left recently for California. They plan to be gone four months and will visit Honolulu, Tokyo, Hong Kong, New Delhi, Bombay, Cairo and Athens, to name a few.

Met at Bridge Table Gay and Eva Off on Trip

Mrs. Gay Gilbert was playing bridge at the Coral Gables Country Club recently when she remarked casually to her partner that she was planning an around-the-world trip. Last week, she and her partner, Mrs. Eva Brown, both left on the trip Mrs. Gilbert had planned to take alone. They visited friends in separate places and will join in Los Angeles where they leave tomorrow (Friday). Their first vessel will be the Orient. They'll come home on the Queen Mary. In between will be a freighter on which they'll explore Japan, the Phillipines, Singapore, India and Egypt. Both women are widows. Mrs. Gilbert resides with her sister at 439 Navarre Ave. For the past 6 1/2 years she has been with Daniels Department store in advertising. Mrs. Brown lives at 1434 Garcia Avenue. MRS. GILBERT
