BIG MAN FROM Kansas City is H. Roe Bartle, that city's mayor. He's the speaker May 9 for the annual Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce dinner. He weighs 300 pounds, stands 6-3 and is said by all who've heard him to be a thoroughly entertaining speaker.
Trout Beckon; Lease Near on Mile Corner
Rumors were thick this week that the big Curlee building at Miracle Mile and Galiano Street has been leased. But the man who knows most about it, owner Sidney Winsberg, says, "Not quite. "We've got two or three parties very close to it. I'd say things should be set in another two or three days." A lease is sure to delight Winsberg who recently closed his Curlee store in order to retire. The Winsbergs live at 1520 Baracoa Ave. And as for retirement, hear Mrs. Winsberg: "Well, it will mean we can spend more time at our summer place up in Michigan. Where? Oh, it's on the upper peninsula, near Marquette. "There's the most wonderful trout fishing there and Mr. Winsberg loves it. In the past we've only been able to run up for three weeks, or two weeks, or a month, and then had to hurry back. "Now, we'll have time. "First, we may go to the World's Fair at Seattle and then go to Michigan. "I've wanted to take a round-the-world trip and we're planning that, too." Curlee's occupied the north-west corner at the Mile and Galiano. Ray Allen's is on the adjacent corner. Allen's will clear its stock and fixtures out next month. Buck Pell, manager, says he will open two other stores elsewhere in Florida which will keep him busy this summer. Coming back to another Gables location? "More than likely," says Pell.
