When She's Tired, She Cooks!
By DAVID GRIER Correspondent "I read them every night, just as if they were novels," says Mrs. Masser Alexander of her more than 100 cookbooks. Cookbooks? They're still around in this era of the TV dinner? You bet, says Mrs. Helen D. O'Neill, circulation librarian in our library. "Cook books have been very popular of late. We've had to add a number of international recipe books." Mrs. Alexander, 711 Alcazar Ave., was so impressed with a trip to Mexico that she has taken up a number of that country's dishes. She loves to prepare chicken and turkey mole (molay). On occasion, when she has appreciative guests, she goes all out to concoct the Mexican Paella, an elaborate dish including yellow rice, chicken, shrimp, oysters, clams and lobsters. Mrs. W. H. Linnemeier, 1206 Pizarro St., was "Cook of the Month" of the Coral Gables Women's Club recently. It was mainly by reason of her original orange cake with orange dressing. "The kitchen is my love," she says. "It is so relaxing to cook that often when I'm tired I just get busy and prepare something and it refreshes me." Some time ago whe won a new stove from the Federation of Women's Clubs for her "Pork Chop Supreme." Mrs. C. H. Goodloe, 1100 Alhambra Cir., claims to "absolutely never use frozen foods or cake mixes of any kind." Mrs. Goodlow also was a "Cook of the Month," owing the title to her "Green Bean Salad." Besides, this, she is fond of lemon meringue and lemon chiffon pie and likes to make up some dishes of India which she can't pronounce.
