Sunrise Residents Push Lawsuit; Money Is Sought
The Sunrise Harbour Association laid the groundwork this week for its lawsuit to block a two-story, 28-unit apartment granted on an emergency ordinance. The group got a certified copy of the ordinance and continued to raise funds to hire an attorney, reportedly an old foe of Coral Gables — Vincent Giblin. Giblin has been involved in litigation with the City since early 1959 when he was a Circuit judge and was arrested by Gables police for obstructing after his wife was stopped for speeding.
Bids Being Received For 2nd Publix Here
Bids are being received for the new Publix Supermarket at Madruga Street and Monza Avenue. Estimated cost is $300,000. This will be the second Publix for Coral Gables, the first one is under construction on the Old Youth Center site on Andalusia Avenue and LeJeune Road. Opposition to the new market was generated by neighbors when plans were revealed late last year. The City Commission declined to vacate an alley to create a unified tract, but Publix still had proper zoning and enough land to go ahead with its plans. Charles N. Johnson, of Lakeland, is the architect and O. K. Houstoun Jr., of Coral Gables, the associate architect. They designed the LeJeune Road store also.
Tax Man Eyes Merchants
Approximately 200 Gables merchants who failed to read the fine print are due for a visit from a special auditor and a probable change in their personal property tax returns. The City Commission has authorized the hiring of an auditor at $1,000 for a 10-week period to explain the new personal property set up and pick up an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 in revenue. The loss resulted when the city changed the rules of the game to require that merchants report 100 per cent of average inventories rather than 60 per cent of average as figured by merchants. Tax Assessor T. C. Blount reported that filing at the old 60 per cent level resulted in good returns $1.5 to $2 million below last year because of the anticipated halving of millage resulting from the "revaluation, reassessment or equalization" program recently completed. Blount estimates that the work will take two months to complete.

DANTE FASCELL PROVEN LEADERSHIP FOR DADE AND THE NATION
CUBAN EMBARGO The Fascell amendment to the Foreign Assistance Act gave President Kennedy the ability to place a total embargo on Communist Cuba. This embargo has had a disastrous effect on Castro's plans. The economy of Communist Cuba is all but ruined because of the President's embargo. FOUGHT AID TO COMMUNIST COUNTRIES Dante Fascell sponsored an amendment to the Foreign Aid Act which prohibits any assistance to countries dominated by international communism. OPPOSITION TO RED CHINA Introduced and enacted into law a Fascell resolution re-affirming congressional opposition to Communist China's admission to the United Nations. CONTROL OF FOREIGN AID Dante led the fight and supported legislation placing stringent controls on our foreign aid program. He believes in loans instead of grants to friendly countries; closer internal audit controls and a complete inspection system. Re-elect CONGRESSMAN FASCELL PD.POL.ADV.
