2 Cavaliers Winners Of Merit Scholarships

BRANT BROWN . . . Merit winner ANTHONY WASSERMAN . . . Merit winner 2 Cavaliers Winners Of Merit Scholarships Two Coral Gables High seniors, H. Brant Brown and Anthony Wasserman, have won four year, National Merit Scholarships. Wasserman, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph K. Wasserman, 1430 Palancia Ave., will major in mathematics at Stanford University. Brown, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harris B. Brown, 4110 Woodridge Rd., Coconut Grove, will major in aeronautical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Both Wasserman and Brown are active in school affairs and rank high in academic achievements. Wasserman, for example, had the second highest in Florida this year in a national math contest and was second in Dade County's high school spelling bee in 1959. Wasserman is a member of the National Honor Society, Science and Math Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Brown is active in Methodist Youth Fellowship, as well as belonging to Allied Youth, National Honor Society and Science and Math Honor Society. Brown is a senior leader of Sea Scout Ship 537 ahd his hobbies include photography, cycling, boating and hiking. Some of Wasserman's other activities include working last year on the teen council at the Coral Gables Youth Center and keeping up his coin and stamp collection.

Frank Kerdyk First Head of New Presidents' Unit

FRANK KERDYK . . . first president Frank Kerdyk is the first president of the newly-formed Presidents' Council. Ed Kellermann will be secretary. The council is to be the coordinating agency for civic and service organizations in Coral Gables when there are mutual projects or information needs to be gotten to all. Kerdyk operates his own real estate firm and Kellermann is manager of Consumer Water Co.'s operations in the Gables.
