Another Comparing of Charters
By GERARD PUCCI (Fourth in a series of five) Our U.S. Constitution is a concisely worded document, clear in its meaning. It was written this way so that the average person can know and understand its provisions and philosophy. The U.N. Charter, on the other hand is an ambiguous, and contradictory document. It was written this way, so that the average man will be inclined to say, "It is too complicated for me—let the experts figure it out." Whenever we make this statement, regarding any government, then we have already lost our freedom. Freedom and government are everybody's business. Your freedom cannot be delegated to an expert, or to anyone else. Freedom is like breathing—it is like religion. In each of these, you must take a direct, personal part, or you will die—in slavery, in your physical life, and in your spiritual life. Our Constitution is a document which restricted our government. The framers of the Constitution realized that the greatest enemy of mankind has always been concentrated government, because it leads to tyranny. This is a lesson that has never been learned in many areas of the world. It is a lesson that is being lost in this country. Amendment 1, of our U.S. Constitution, states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" This provision is violated by the United Nations Covenant on Human Rights which states in Article 13, Paragraph 3: "Freedom to manifest one's religion or beliefs may be subject . . . to limitations as are prescribed by law . . ." Amendment 10 of our Constitution states: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution . . . are reserved . . . to the people." Our Constitution is again violated by Chapter IX, Article 55 of the U.N. Charter: ". . . the United Nations shall promote (a) higher standards of living, full employment . . . (b) solutions of international economic, social, health, and related problems." These words may sound pleasant, but their meaning is deadly. Our Constitution states: "Congress shall make no law . . ." and "the powers are . . . reserved . . . to the people." The U.N. Charter states that it shall "promote" the items enumerated therein. The difference is, that our Constitution restricts the government. The U.N., on the other hand, restricts our freedom of religion, education, economics, employment, etc. A few of the countries in the United Nations that will pass laws on our God-given rights are: Russia, Byerlorussia, Ukraine, Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Cuba, Ghana, Yugoslavia, Guinea, Rwanda, Togo, Upper Volta, Niger, Chad, Gabon, Dahoney, etc. Many of the U.N. countries are Communist, whose people are not permitted to govern themselves, many of them are primitive. African and Asiatic countries, whose people are not able to govern themselves. Why have our present day leaders placed our God-given liberties in the hands of these strange and incompetent countries?
A Puzzler? This Doctor Sends Answer Long Way
It was with surprise that we received the other day still another answer to that celebrated math puzzle of Ham Hayes' which we ran. The answer, quite correct, comes this time from Memphis, Tenn. It's from Dr. W. Rex Hawkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Rex Hawkins, 506 Almeria Ave. Dr. Hawkins is described by his mother as "always being a bug for puzzles." She said when he edited the engineering magazine at Georgia Tech he handled a similar problem. Dr. Hawkins, in the last class of the old Ponce High School, is married to a doctor, as well and they have a daughter, 19-month-old Christa. Dr. Hawkins' mother teaches at Gables Elementary and his dad's with Southern Bell. The doctor, who'll finish his training next July, is an ophthalmologist. Henceforth, mom won't have to forward her Times each week. We're awarding her son a three month's subscription for being such a good puzzle solver. Happy reading.
The Editor's Mailbox
EDITOR: The purpose of my letter is three-fold: 1. To enclose a check for a year's subscription to The Coral Gables Times. 2. To offer congratulations from one Southerner to another for the improved quality of the paper since "another" took over. 3. To confess that a wave of nostalgia swept over the writer when she read a reference to Sam Miller of Sears Roebuck and the "sing-a-long." Before moving to Coral Gables from Georgia 14 years ago, it was my great pleasure to provide piano accompaniment for club "sing-a-longs" for such groups as Kiwanis, Rotary Chamber of Commerce and the like. As a demonstration teacher here in Dade County I cannot offer my services for regular week-day meetings but for week-end functions or special activities (parties for under-privileged children etc.), I would be most happy to substitute for regular accompanists. Public school holidays begin Dec. 21st. MRS. VERA GALLOGLY 535 Caduga Ave. EDITOR: I sold as of this evening all the furniture I listed with you, which proves that readers read and remember your ads. The "help wanted" ad has kept the phone ringing constantly from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 p.m. tonight. Talk about a testimonial. I thought I'd be lucky to get one or two suitable people, but 29 people called looking for a part time job—one excellent man, one experienced male, three decorating students, and a whole flock of housewives with no experience whatsoever looking for something to do that required no work on their part. Anyway, I got three wonderful helpers from my $1 ad. I don't see why more businesses needing additional help or part time workers don't use your paper. All applying were well educated and well spoken persons. ELEANORE MICELLI 632 Zamora Ave.
